and it was one of his employee who listed a fake decoration ...on his website !!

All these dealers are so busy .....

OK READY.....Why in Gods Green Earth if the tunic was ALREADY SOLD would they make a description for the tunic???!!!!Obviously thats not the job of the photographer!!!So I guess its also the guy who does the descriptions fault also?: so we are to believe it was rebadged for a customer...then...it was photographed..then a detailed description was made...then it was posted, and noone caught this??

LMAO John! on a serious note many thanks go out to John Pic for bringing this to the forums attention, it seems after a major fire like this.... it goes back to business as usual in a short time.
I am of the belief that this thread should be permanantly pinned to the top of this forum to remind us and show new members why it should never be business as usual!!! What a joke the explanation was!
          Thanks again J.P.!

Cmon guys,I would not defend Weitze but a bit of benefit of the doubt...............

I have had a similar experience with one of the best dealer from the US with an SS visor cap. This visor was described as near to perfect and just with a nice patina (if I remember the price was 13/14000USD) ,but when I received it I had an ugly surprise. The sweetband and the visor had been resewn and glued in a very bad way.
Late he said me that the description was made from the son.

I will repeat,I'M NOT DEFENDING Weitze but just I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

As stated by others, lame excuse. "It takes years to build trust but seconds to loose".
The Internet is the best guard dog possible for the hobby against fakers and crocked dealers. Its also invaluable to relatively new collectors such as myself, and by extension, to the community, as it reduces the volume of prey for the not so honorable and thus it in a sense controls the "demand" for fakes.
This forum gives people like me the possibility to ask the advice or seek information from collectors with many decades of knowledge, literary by the press of a button! Honestly, without it I don't think I would have committed to the hobby as I have.

Told YA John! He blamed it again on The Staff !

Weitze's excuse of being in Italy while the crime was committed reminded me of Al Capone being in Florida during the St. Valentines day massacre in Chicago.

To come up with this type of BS excuse in light of the clear evidence to the contrary shows a complete disrespect to the intelligence of all of us.

Some of you can give him all the 'benefit of the doubt' you want, over and over.
But remember the old saying: "your either part of the problem, or part of the solution."

'Denial' in this hobby is your worst enemy.

Not the first time it happens, and probably not the last, unfortuantelly its getting to be quite common, from the replaced breast/arm eagle to the whole recosntruction.

I guess that thanks to the forum and members that keep an eye out, one can stay a bitt ahead form being burned.

Nice restoration or alteration for display purposes but should be advertised as such

otherwise we all know there si deception involved..............................

,,,found a great hemp rope,, almost done, on 13th loop now,,

                    - That response was terrible, so much for the dealer taking all responsibilty for something,,the freakin site is his name!
This is long time learned behavior. I remember Jpics other jacket from him with the pips,,that was a couple years ago already. My opinion is that things like this has been going on there for many years.

I think its time to stop buying anything from this creep. Weitz, has just gotten caught, and as a result has no integrity in my book. Items should always be sold as found, and never changed if it is a pure hobby....but since it isnt, who wants tuned up crap.....I dont?? I value the vet brought home items the most, and if anything i own isn't vet found, originally that is, I don't value it nearly as much.

I say hit em where it hurts : reputation/ and wallet. Besides these german dealers charge at least 1/2 times more , and there is not that much to be found in germany. Most all comes from the usa anyway. We hold the lions share. My suggestion: Don't ever sell anything to weitz. And if you do, charge him 1/2 x more or no deal.
I personally will never buy from this cheeze ball, or ever sell him anything if i ever sell my collection. Its just a matter of pricipal, and when the guy sold picketts items on the road show, and was resold, it is the same fraud to screw this seller, then to make up such a flimsy excuse, is nothing short of deceit.
He also has many employees combing the forum constantly looking for weitz threads effecting his practices, so don't think he doesnt. I'd say he has a finders fee for all articles negative to him first reported , so collateral damage may be controlled as in this case. He's basicly just a a whore like the rest of the disreputable, and to me has no integrity....strictly commercial, and out for his own benefit exclusively. I don't care what he sells, i'll also bet he has ringers so well made, we are all fooled. I will stick with woodwork hunting , and its those deals that really are the most exciting anyway than the easy but more expensive dealer deal. I wish weitz could be shut down for principles sake for misrepresentation, and gross neglegence of good common decency in business practices. Its time we see such dealers as they really are, and stop paying the stupidly rediculous prices they want with the economy in the crapper as it is. Stop buying, and they will fade away. Mr weitz, your note has come due. I hope your karma makes you pay dearly for all the years you have gotten away with such blastphemy to the collector, and so i wouldnt be suprised if your life suddenly changed for the worse. I don't buy the out of town excuse either....i give you a thumbdown

                        Hi guys,

What is to be done? I like you am a collector. That means I love the stuff I collect. I do not like giving up something I love. At the same time I have done business with quite a few dealers (and these include most if not all top dogs) and with most of them I have questioned at least some of the wares they had for sale and these included tunics up to 80 K which supposedly were sollid pieces. But then again these same people sell wonderful pieces as well. I have quite a few pieces from Helmut which are great. I also had some pieces which I sent back as these were modified or doctored with.

Unfortunately if I want to continue to collect, I will continue to have to deal with these people who sometimes can and sometimes cannot be trusted. As there sometimes is quite a bit of money involved this can be quite unpleasant. There are however unfortunately very little alternatives. The same issue of untrustworthyness is true for dealing with some Forum members (like buying a book on estand and never getting it) or with collectors in general - so not just dealers. Even though I totally reject fraudulant behaviour from whomever, I do not see any alternatives. If I start to boycott every dealer who has ever done a shady deal I would be forced to stop collecting. If anyone has any alternatives I am all ears or knows the illusive saintly dealer that is honesty made flesh please let me know. Just my two cents.

                        Cheers, W

It's relatively simple for me - I cannot afford to buy from that particular dealer due to the high prices. I can certainly understand his high overhead, however - antique 1940's sewing machines, expert seamstresses and tailors and insignia fabrication are very expensive things to have on call!

You know they laugh at collectors "stupid collectors" . Ive seen and heard it.

What I believe is that I don't believe any big shot dealer can solely make a living selling 100% real items. The source is not big enough. Do you think they are going to yard sales? Hell no. Sure their prices are high, but they must buy a lot from collections or other dealers where the markup is more fragile. They need major markup to cover the expenses of flying around the world, having staffs, and living the grand life styles . So what items do you think are marked up the best 200%- 1000%. Yup, you got it.

I have never been a conspiracy theorist of any kind, but I guarantee there is a network.
