Thought I share another period wooden family crest here - made of heavy german oak and masterly carved.

A perfect addition to the Erbhof sign and other DHW goodies.

The plaque is quite heavy and huge: Length is 32 cm - height 45 cm - depth 3 cm.

The quality is simply outstanding - the smooth patina is the cream on this one.

so you post something else here to garner interest for a private sale but refuse to share what you claim is pertinent information on my plaque (of which this thread is about).
It appears you are a very petty troll.

The info about your plaque is out there - somewhere.

                Happy hunting!

I finally found another one which suits my taste well enough to be happy and thankful to the seller.

                    Concentrate on the subject.

Actually your plaque and mine do show similarities in regards to the doubtless use of germanic runic symbols - while yours is highlighted by the sword and Stahlhelm mine is enframed via an octagonal outer rim.

Taking these known period design elements into account - where have these been in use, Michael?

Would be cool to have one with my family name.

Only a troll like you would claim to have pertinent info on my piece and refuse to share it, then post on my thread with a different item.

Very nice carving of oak, my question is what period is this made in? Also you toss in DHW when this would have been a privately made entity not a mass or semi mass designed item, so no DHW tie there.

I agree that it is beautifully carved, but, it is not a 'crest'...the term 'Crest' (Helmkleinod) only refers to the part of the whole armorial achievement which sits on top of the helm.
I am not convinced in this case that the Crest (Helmkleinod) and Charge (Schildfigur) are runic symbols...given the overall style of the Wappenzusammensetzung, it is more likely that this design represents the 'Crucifixus Dolorosus' or 'Forked Cross' (Gabelkreuz) than the 'Man' or 'Leben' Rune from which it was adapted (to suit the medieval Christian Church).
It could also be argued that the three spades in the chief are indicative of National Socialist ideals, but in reality, the spade/shovel/trowel has been a common heraldic charge for centuries. I also doubt that the Nazis held the monopoly on the octagon.
Regardless of when it was made, it is still a beautiful example of heraldic wood carving.

Yes, I also think it is indeed a fine piece and according to the former owner it is from the 30ties and that is why I could not resist.
