Hi Merdock,

The second, and final, pattern was being used in 1938, so this is likely 1938 or before. Nothing was discarded, so all remaining stocks of the first pattern eagles would have been used up.

Here are my contributions to the thread. My favorite has to be the early style eagle on the top left. Interesting variation with the flat wire thread. The others are just as nice....

Steve, I have a similiar eagle, can't figure out who used them. Clearly original though, especially from the back. Because the eagle is in grey, it makes a sharp contrast with the off-white thread on the back.
