Firstly, thanks for your comments and help, Steve and Willi.
Willi, after a closer examination I can say that the back/reverse has two colors of thread: grey color and natural/unbleached one, though the latter isn´t the predominant thread. As you can see, there is no holes without thread nor "empty areas" on the back. As for the wool, I´ve compared it with the wool of a FJ cloth badge I purchased from Detlev. They are very similar: color and texture. Maybe the odd color you see is due to the light of the scanner(?)
Anyway, the breast eagle has on the back a light and thin black film/cloth. I think that it´s similar to the eagle sold by Detlev last friday.
    Best regards and thanks again

Oscar, your eagle looks perfectly original to me. I can now see the details of the back alittle better. Your description of the threads is what I needed to hear. As for wool variations (in both color and quality of wool) there are endless variations. I just looked at all of mine, and I have a few which are similiar to yours.

Here are some of my wool/cotton/HBT backed variations.

A few more eagles from one veteran, through a dealer. Nothing exciting about the top bullion eagle. But, the lower one is quite different from the norm. Sewn like an EM eagle, same wool backing. The areas where the bullion is missing is down to the base thread of the eagle. It almost looks like it was made that way, but rather unlikely. Picked them up because the lower one was so unusal.

              Hi Willi,

The lower one is fine wire, not the usual coiled wire of hand sewn insignia, cool! Like you said, it's a machine sewn (non Bevo) officer's eagle, darn unusual. The swas, and upper leading edge was of a different thread that did not hold it's metal coating well.

Tony, that top one looks familiar!

Here is a nice early flat wire, and a unique nicely made EM eagle.

The veteran made a plaque out of his battlefield find, from a pilot no less.
