You can see the Maedicke maker's mark under the name.

Nice birds Tim. The one with the blue backing looks the same as mine. Do you know where they used them? On what tunic/shirt?

A Collani is probably my guess for sailors who did not want to have an embroidered eagle; this would be the option.
As Tim said before, they would have loops much in the same way that medals/qualification badges would be attached. This is my speculation on these.
          Nice birds shown.
          Best regards,

            Hi Farradin,

No, I don't know really for sure. As Justin stated, probably on occasion where someone wanted to wear something other than an embroidered eagle but, it appears these were sewn on to the garment, so...a dressier shirt/blouse for mess dress or official functions? May be nothing more than a personal preference as some of these embroidered eagles look pretty poor in style.

Then again, perhaps a unit that was deployed for a long period of time (u-boat or auxiliary ships) away from Germany and the sailor could not get access to regular manufactured uniform items and improvised what he had available onboard. Would be interesting to see some in actual wear.

My eagle is pretty thin, hollow stamped and not solid, appears to be gilded aluminum and may be mounted the with the same small pins as yours. I can't tell as the eagle is pretty tight to the fabric.

Congrats again on a great looking eagle!

Did they have eagles on the dress cloaks, or similar garments?

Great looking eagle and hopefully someone can unravel this mystery.

                  Hi Farradin,

Well, that's near spot on for mine. Here's the dimensions I wrote down back in 2003 when I picked this one up.

                  Height: 35.46 MM
                  Width: 94.15 MM

Weight: 5.7 grams, though thats not going to be the same as yours as the backing material is different.

Back in post #3 JayP had already identified this type as an Assmann, but it's nice to have two examples...
