After viewing these photos, the thing that strikes me is the fact that every single item is fake. Wouldn't you expect that someone who was interested in acquiring original militaria would occasionally stumble on to an original item?

I believe it would be most wise to close this thread.
It has fulfilled the sole purpose why Glenn started it, don't expect much more educational value to come from it to be honest.
Subsequently some correct observations have been made and unfortunately some unnecessary and IMO disqualifying ones as well (some that have now justly been removed).

With all due respect to the former owner. His enthusiasm in acquiring historical pieces, was not unlike ours. This event redefines the role of the dealer, his responsibilities to the collecting community.
Amazing how the items just vanish when exposed as doubtful or simply "put to the question". Perhaps it is time for some accountability by the dealers or even a statement of some sort. Perhaps the term "lifetime guarantee" should last more than the expiration date on a milk carton. In any case, it is a reminder that any dealer transactions should be taken with as much caution as buying an item on ebay. The word dealer is NOT synonymous with original.
This whole situation is quite sad on many levels, I agree. Thanks so much for having the B---- to shed light on this. We will be careful with the Pz items on this site.

I have never dealt with the dealer in question but I'm happy to believe others when they claim him to be a stand up guy. Realizing that his expertise and credibility has suffered by this whole situation, I think he responded in the most sensible way. Still I find truth as well in some of the previous points made by Derka.
There are very, very few dealers around I would blindly trust beyond my own expertise, an expertise which is still far from its perfection phase btw. IMO we ourselves are responsible for our education and acquisitions, certainly when these kind of amounts are involved. Forums like this can be of great help, as again shown, but time, common sense and educational investment are key essentials.
'Militaria Dealer' is certainly not to be considered a professional profession like a qualified dentist or mechanic f.e. in whom you can comfortably lay your trust and money. I even know dealers that aren't collectors and base most of their knowledge on the pickers they have put out to work.
