Thank you for your imput and yes not only decorations but also replacement uniforms were sent as well.

Keep in mind that many POW's received decorations after being captured, and these were often forwarded via the Red Cross. My old friend Josef Buerschgens of JG 26 received the Ehrenpokal at Bowmanville.

Hello Peter,

Nice find! He survived the War and became one of the wealthiest men in Germany along with his older Half-Brother Herbert only to die in a plane crash in Italy 1967

Here are two borrowed photos of him....first is a period photo of him added to the Goebbels family portrait and the second one of him in HJ uniform during of the remarriage of his mother to Goebbels with Hitler in the background. Hitler was Goebbels best man at the wedding.

The letter I posted was sent to his former Kompanie-commander in the Fallschirm-Pionier-Bataillon Andreas Steiner who was a US-POW himself at that time.

Just received a small grouping of portrait photos that belonged to POW Gefr. Walter Richter 7WG-22218 Afrika Korps veteran who was captured 8 Mai 1943 in Afrika Feldlazarett 950 Karthaga. Initially a POW with the British and then shipped to the USA to Camp Grant and Camp Ellis, Illinois. There are also portraits of him with some of his kamerads/friends. Interesting photo group with some in their German uniforms with decorations and some in US POW marked clothes.
