according to Uboat.net U-93 was sunk in the atlantic ocean after a depth charge attack.

wonder where they got all their uniforms/badges from?

didn't sometimes guys get sent badges to them in the POW camps?

As a POW you could get most of what you needed either locally made or sent from home via the red cross ...

I've corresponded with about 6 former POWs that were confined in Australia.

They all mentioned to me they occasionally received shipments of new uniforms and even badges for wear. I think the case may have been the same in Canada.

I however don't think the same support for updating the uniforms and wear of badges applied in the US and in England.

Whom would have sent the Pow's replacement uniforms and even badges?
Was it family? Times were very difficult for the people in Germany and money tight nevermind where would one get these uniforms?

One would think that the occupational forces would not allow uniforms
to be used?

I am pretty sure the uniforms and accessories were shipped from official government sources through an intermediary government to the country holding the POWs. My assumption was the German government provided this support --through the Swiss (i.e. Red Cross)-- to their POWs.

i have read a book about German POWs kept in Australia during and after WW2 and there were photos of the Germans wearing awards uniforms etc and they were still allowed nazi literature etc


However It appears that as the war progressed the wearing of awards with swastikas, uniforms and nazi trappings got more and more restricted until finally all nazi related material and awards were banned from wear.
