Since we are on the subject of these huge Railway guns...I have a couple of photos of "Dora" which was captured near Grafenwoehr Germany.

I don't have a picture but a brief story my Dad told me. He remembers hearing a large German railway gun firing at the Americans. Dad said they would fire very few rounds three times a day. The Germans apparently didn't want the guns position discovered as they would move it after each brief firing. Dad said it was trying to hit a bridge (I can't remember now which one he said).

Another time he was walking next to a German tank that had been taken out of action. On the tank and scattered all round the ground around it was script money. The script was blown out of the tank when it took a anti tank round. Dad said he looked inside the drivers opening and the driver was still sitting in his seat...minus his head.

                                Greg,

Thanks for joining in on this thread and sharing your Dad's wartime experiences with us. Stories like those are lost forever if they aren't passed on to the next generation. Thanks again. Bill
