Here a short summary of the contents of the letter:

The letter is dated 18.1.1947 and Walter KOLB can announce his wife that he is in Camp Hespe to prepare themselves for his trip/Transport back to Germany. In a few days he will be on the way back and he wants to let his wife know that he will arrive. Even if his transport back will at least have a duration of about 3 weeks he hopes that this letter will be earlier in the hands of his wife.
The first stop in Germany will be Saaralp.

He expresses his joy to come at home finally and even he can immagine they joy of his wife to be united with him after such a long time. He writes about the weather (rain) and that he has plenty of things to eat because he is not allowed to bring back food.

With best regards, also to other members of the family or friends he is ending his letter.

                          Servus Bergkameraden,

Recently acquired a new photo album and I need some help with some of the inscriptions on the backs of the photos so I can ID the unit and location. Thanks in advance.

I translate this as Maruchskoi (or Maruchskoj) Pass which is in the Caucasus. Any thoughts?

                          Bergheil,
                          Patrick

Here's another caption...maybe he means Kara Kaja which is on one side of the Maruchskaj Pass???

                            Thanks,
                            Patrick

I read Maruschkoi Pass for the first and Karatkoi or Karatkai for the second. At least there is the clue that the named mt. is 4000 m high. That should help.
