                          # 650 So the soldier in Italy was giving the photo to a girl named Hilde?

                          # 652 That's interesting that she was from Hamelin. What would Marlies be short for or was that actually the girls name? She looks to be about ten to me, what do you think? I can see her HJ/BDM pin on her pocket.

Many thanks! Would a bigger scan maybe sharper help you more? Yes, you are right.

Sorry, but even the bigger scan will not help me to read the text better. There are a lot of words missing because of the bad copy - in addition the personal handwriting of the guy which is very bad.

So it would seem. The wording is a bit odd there; it is actually more what one would expect to find on a photograph of said Hilde given to the soldier, not vice versa. Perhaps what he really meant to express is "Andenken für", not "Andenken an".
The word "Kameradin" is interesting, by the way. Perhaps she was an auxilliary of some kind.

Marlies is a proper name in its own right, but it can also be a colloquial or affectionate short form of Marie-Luise, Maria-Luise, Marie-Elisabeth etc. (It's the same with, for example, the male name "Hans", which can be the actual name or the short form of "Johann", "Johannes" etc.)
About ten years of age could be, but then I am terribly bad at estimating people's age. Certainly not younger, as 10 was the entry age.
