The second small doc states that Hauptmann Zechel completed a training course in Dec. 1944 regarding "NS" doctrine which refers to having a political officer assigned to units to keep an ear and eye on any anti-Nazi talk or activity in a unit similar to the Red Army using political commissars. I knew a commander whose unit in Normandy was assigned such an NS-Offizier and there was an issue regarding how one would salute. The commander simply told him "I'm in charge and I will determine how we salute" meaning the usual army salute raising a hand to your forehead would remain the normal salute. The commander got into any trouble about this afterwards and the NSO remained an unpopular presence in the unit.
