Hi Hank , Thanks for that, can you -- or any of the other guys translate what he got the RK for . I have had some of his documents for a while but dont know why he got it.
Major Graf Schimmelmann was an officer candidate and lieutenant in the First World War. In 1935 he reentered the army and was promoted to major in 1939. He participated in both the eastern and western campaigns. In combat he tallied 83 enemy tanks, 48 AT guns and 8 artillery batteries. On 12 April 1941 he and his battalion attacked Ft. Natalinci and took over 200 prisoners. Through this decisive action an enemy formation that threatened the division's advance was destroyed. This success was due to the personal action of the commander who led the attack from the front.
