Wow Pauke, this guy joined the party when he was still 15 years old. He must've been one of the very first members. Hamburg, that was my ancestors hometown.

To clarify, he joined the SPD, NOT the DAP (which later became the NSDAP).

Hi Hank thanks for clarifying. What was the SPD? Was it eventually absorbed by the Nazi Party? 15 is still pretty young to be joining anything like a party.

The SPD (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands) was never absorbed by the NSDAP.

On the contrary: the NS have forbidden the SPD and they prosecuted the members of the SPD.

Hi Gerdan from the title, they sound like just another Socialist group. Why would the NSDAP persecute them? Were the SPD's really a Communist organization calling itself Socialist?

                # 1418

                Hi John

from the title it seems that the SPD was a socialist party as also the NSDAP from the title.

But there was a very big difference from their origing, their goals and the way they wanted to reach their political goals.

Between the SPD and the Communist may have bee some basics in the beginning but later not any more.

                          Hi Gerdan,
I have a guess as to what the last name is, but I need your expertise/help with translating the last name, and the word under it.

Thanks very much for your time!

I am doing some research on a fj killed at Cassino. Doc's and awards belonged to a Gefreiter Ludwig Grill in the Fallschirm Kradsch. Kp. Falschirmjager Div 1. Dated 1943. Can anyone help with the translation of this page relevant to his death. Online translation does not really give an accurate reflection. Many thanx Jacques.

A condensed translation is they were waiting for their artillery support; it started, but the shells were falling short, and landing among the German troops. The preparatory fire ended after exactly 10 minutes. No telling how many losses from the short shells in the darkness. Then the (German) troops began a probing action toward the train barns. They received heavy machine-pistol fire. As far as the writer could remember, Obergefreiter Wächtler called out in English for the Tommys to surrvender; he was felled by fire from the train barns. Grill was also in roughly the same position and wanted to storm the barns, but was also hit by a salvo and fell, where he remained motionless.
After the second circle, it goes into a noise from behind them and they’re worried about being encircled…
