Last month they just covered over the door areas of one of the former tank maintenance buildings and made the outer wall flat and smooth. I hate to see the old buildings getting changed.

That is sad isn't? It's like they think if they cover everything over, people will forget the bravery of the average German soldier.

Oh wow, thats cool that you got to eat there Joe! I agree, that is one thing I dislike about Modern Germany is that they dont mind forgetting about there past, while most places want to preserve whats left. I understand there point of view, but still sad to see that type of History wiped away forever. Hopefully they keep the Iron Scroll work at least! How awesome to be able to still see that tho, lucky.

There may have been others, but I havent found any. To my knowledge they were @ Boblingen near Stuttgart while forming the 8th Reg as well. (while the 8th Reg was still part of the 10th Pz-Div.) So it very well could be either.
There is a single digit # on the shoulderboard of one of the men in the train photo but I cannot confirm for sure if it is a 7 or 8, even while using the eye loupe. All of the photos from that group + the stuttgart pic are from the same source, and I have requested info...with no response yet. I think we are on the right track, but I will wait to see if I can get confirmation from the seller too.
Thank you for your help and interest, its very much appreciated!
Nice railhead photo you have there. I have been collecting Panzer rgt 7 and 8 for a number of years now since I work on the bases. You are correct that the two regiments were here in Stuttgart. The 7th was at Stuttgart-Vaihingen and the 8th was at Boeblingen about 5Km or so away. There is an old tank road that links up the two bases and itis still there. The 7th also had elements over at Boeblingen now and again. Looking at the railherad photo I don't see anything that confirms it is Vaihingen but don't see anything that counts it out either. The stuttgart rail cars were all over the place so it could be somewhere else. But lets assume it is there. It could pass as the railhead at Vaihingen Fildern which is where they would go if using rail. It is just a couple of kilometers from the base. The background smokestack would be about where the old Schwaben Brau Brewery was. I will look through my other railhead Vaihingen fildern photos to see if I can match it up. Now it looks like the panzerman with the Beret has a shoulder board that has a number on it? Is that the man you were talking about? Maybe use a 15x loop and see if you can make anything out?

Thanks alot for the info on both regiments! You are definitely right, its hard to say for sure, unless we are able to ID something as the Smokestack, like you suggested. I understand that the Rails were obviously run by the Reichsbahn and were not the Panzer Regiments own transport rig....so again, hard to say for sure. The cart could have been leaving Stuttgart, bound for Stuttgart, or anywhere else for that matter!! haha But that would be absolutely great if you could somehow match it up to Vaihingen Fildern by chance. And yes, the guy NEXT to the "Transport-fuhrer" (white armband) has a number on the shldrboard, but even w/ 10x + 20x eye loupe I cant honestly say for sure what it reads. I can say that it has a better chance of looking like a 7 than an 8 tho...so i dunno? Owell, thanks again

GREAT photos, Bill. Is there anything written on the reverse of any of the photos indicating which unit it is?

Thanks for sharing these with us.
