              Hi Bill,

              Nice photos!

Any idea on the date of these photos? Pre- or post-Stalingrad?

Hi Jason, Think you could be right, it does look like an "R"03. The number in shown on the back of the turret as well. Thanks

                  Bill, some kick ass photos!!!!

Mark, Great photos. Do you own the one with them standing In the Front of Krags command vehicle also? I think I remember seeing a few from this particular day. Just awesome!

                      Jason,

Take a look at my other good friend Jim Haley (PzV) on his StuG Abt. 243 Group thread and you will have the answer. He picked up most of the Grouping from Karl-Heinz who got it directly from the son of the veteran for nothing. I happily received some of the double photos.

                            Bill:

It would be interesting to know if your photos in post 738 are from the 7th Panzer Regiment, which was right outside of Stuttgart during their Panzer I days.

Do you have any background on the photos and their history?

                            Joe

You know what Joe, Ive been researching this since I got these photos, and the 7th + 8th Reg (10th pz.-Div) are the only Regiments that I can find that was using Wehrkreis 5 (Stuttgart), as Home station/Kaserne. There may have been others, but I havent found any. To my knowledge they were @ Boblingen near Stuttgart while forming the 8th Reg as well. (while the 8th Reg was still part of the 10th Pz-Div.) So it very well could be either.
There is a single digit # on the shoulderboard of one of the men in the train photo but I cannot confirm for sure if it is a 7 or 8, even while using the eye loupe. All of the photos from that group + the stuttgart pic are from the same source, and I have requested info...with no response yet. I think we are on the right track, but I will wait to see if I can get confirmation from the seller too.
Thank you for your help and interest, its very much appreciated!

                                Bill:

I ate lunch at the former 7th Panzer Regiment officer's club yesterday. What's cool is there is still a iron work fancy scroll of "7 Pz Rg" on one of the windows.

Last month they just covered over the door areas of one of the former tank maintenance buildings and made the outer wall flat and smooth. I hate to see the old buildings getting changed.
