Hello John, If you reread my post I did not say Regiment or Kompanie, only that the button is numbered..... You said Regiment in your next post, But I would agree with OSS in that they are company or unit and not regiment!

Great photo John and I am still stunned buy it's clarity!

You're right about what you said. Did the Germans have a 16th Kompanie in a unit? What other unit would have that number?

The photo we are discussing here would perhaps be from the late 1930's, the shoulder board is also the early type due to the pointed and not rounded end where the button attaches.

It does seem they could represent his kompanie, however the other thread 16th Kompanie was a band unit. He doesn't appear to be a bandsman. Since he has the EKII already, he'd have had to earn it in Poland I suppose.

Hard to say John, You may want to PM Johnny R and ask his thoughts, I have found him to be very helpful in the past. I too would like to know exactly what the number means......
