    Holland 1940-1945

    Hello All,

Recently one of the better threads on this forum stopped.
I thought it would be nice to start a new one about the fiers battle and liberation of southern Holland. I hope some more people will contribute on this thread too.

    Ok, I'll start:

On the first photo you'll see an old Dutch map from 1928 of the Veghel area, at that time it was written as Vechel. This area was involved in some heavy battles. The American 101 airborne division landed near Eerde to capture the 2 bridges in Veghel. One over the Zuid Willems canal and over the small river " aa". The 101th reached their goal within 2 hours.
The Germans did see well that the Corridor from Valkenswaard till Arnhem should be cut off to isolate the men in Nijmegen and Arnhem.
The best place to do that was between Veghel and St.Oedenrode where the Corridor was very narrow. The Germans launched several attacks on the bridges and on the Corridor.
They succeed 3 times in cutting off this road but they never get the bridge.

The Photo's in this thread may not be used!

The letter was written to the parrents of a member of FJ Reg.6. 16.komp.
He died 25-9 4 km North East of St.Oedenrode near the Koevering.
A few weeks before his older brother (also a FJ) died in Italie.

On 22th september Kampfgruppe Walther comming from the east and attacked Veghel. The 107th Panzerbrigade was part of this Kampfgruppe.
One of the cassulties is this Feldwebel:

Nice to see a Holland thread again. Nice fsj rgt 6 document. Good catch. Familiar name the Kompanie fuhres has. Perhaps family from Francois

Here a small contribution from me. It is a drawning from Oberst Erich Walther, commander of the kampfgruppe. I think you will like it

        hello Floris

Here is a deathcard from Michael Wieland. Officer in the 107th pz brigade. On the deatchcard is written that he died in St Hubert on 1 november 1944, but St Hubert was already in Allied hands around that time

        regards Erwin

                      Erwin,

What makes you think he was with Panzer-Brigade 107???

The reason I ask is because according to Wieland's Soldbuch, his last unit was Panzer-Abteilung 115 (15 Panzergrenadier-Division)

He was also a Unteroffizier, not a officer.

                      Here's his Führerschein:

Well, it really is a small (collecting!) world.

Erwin, should you ever decide to sell or trade Wieland's death card, please don't hesitate to contact me. It would be nice to reunite it with his Soldbuch one day and I can pretty much assure you I can make that happen, should you be willing to work something out.

                      Thanks.

Do you have more related to the 15.Panzer-Grenadier-Division?

                          Hello Rob,

Well i thought that before Henner contact me. He showed me the solbuch
from Michael Wieland last friday. The soldbuch is in his collection. Perhaps it is polite from you to mention this in your post.

My conclusion was also that he was in Panzer Abt 115 after i saw the soldbuch. So for me it was great news because i haven't got a deatchcard from the 15 pz gren. I will change the text in my post i haven't got the time for it to set it straight, i don't have so much time as you to vieuw al threads in a day

To answer your other question. I thought before it was pz brig 107 because they were in that area St. Hubert before that date. It could be that he had been wounded there and died later. Around the end of october it was in allied hands. Apperently pz gren 115 was there also only a little later after Market Garden ended. Perhaps with a counter attack.

I can't find one reason why i should give or sell the deathcard to you. Especially after that stug brig 667 issue.

                          regards Erwin

                            correction

It seems that i can't edit my post with the deatchcard in post 14 so i made the correction in this post

Due to the help from Henner L it is for sure that Michael Wieland wasn't in pz brig 107 which i thought before. He was in pz abt 115.
Henner thanks for showing the soldbuch to me

                            regards Erwin
