Great deathcards!! Do you also have 1944 dated deathcards from Flanders (Belgium)?

                Hi all,

I picked this photo up which has on the back "Holland 1944" - so applicable for this topic. Do you know where this might have been taken? Maybe Wassenaar area at all?

                Cheers

                Scott

                      Great death card Lee.

Years ago I did have the same one in my own collection, didn't make any scans of it, so it is nice to an image of the card again.

                      Thanks for showing.

                      yours friendly

I thought that we finally had a contribution from mr. Johnson but again ...... Probably to busy with bumping one of his wanted threads to stay on top every day and opening new wanted threads

Well thanks to the others for their contribution

So here we go for the people who are really interested in it

Here a nice soldbuch from a soldier who was in 9/Gren. Regt. 1035 which was part of the 59ID under command of general W. Poppe. He arrived with the 9/Gren. Regt. 1035 on 4 augustus 1944 and got heavily wounded on 16 november 1944. He got the Verwundeten Abzeichen in Schwarz on 20-12-1944.

Gren. Regt. 1035 was under the command of Major Huber. It was also known as kampfgruppe Huber.

This regiment arrived as the last one from the division in the sector North above Eindhoven to attack the 101st Airborne troops (501st and 502nd regiment) on this part of the corridor. One of the attacks took place on the night of 21/22 september 1944.

On 22 september this Kampfgruppe Huber made an attack with the last 4 jagdpanthers from s/Pz.Jab.Abt 559 against the 101st Airbornes. In fact it was 1 jagdpanther which supported the attack because the others were in repair. This battle took place in Eerde and Koevering area. Hauptmann Mania was in command because Major Huber didn't arrived with his unit.

The kampfgruppe passed Eerde to go to Veghel. Around 2 o'clock Hauptmann Mania discovered the bridge. The jagdpanther opened fire in the direction of the bridge. A British 3.7 inch Anti aircraft gun passed the bridge at this moment. The anti aircraft crew jumped off the lorry to take cover. They were laying on the ground when General Mc Auliffe arrived with his company.

He ordered the anti aircraft crew that they had to attack with their anti aircraft gun instead of laying on the ground. The anti aircraft gun was their only answer to the jagdpanther. Soon, 2 shermans from C-eskadron 44 RT arrived. They had left Eerde and were on their way to Veghel. Unknown to the hidden danger the drove further. Both were lucky. The Germans were retreating now the allied shermans joined the ground forces.

Mania rapported to Poppe that he came under heavy fire from two directions. Later that the day Mania sent the jagdpanther and some infantry back in an attempt to block the road. He wasn't lucky. 2 bataillons from 327th Regiment arrived. The group from Mania couldn't return and hide themselves north of the Corridor. 70 germans were taken prison

This is one of the actions from Gren. Regt. 1035.

Here some pages from the soldbuch. First the unit page

                              Regards
