Erwin - it looks like you've found what appears to be a very nice StuG.Brgd.244 grouping! Hopefully you'll share some more scans with us when your time permits
Best,

After the corridor / hell's highway had been open for several days and the Germans weren't in the position to launch new attacks towards it, the 101 Airborne Division was able to get some rest. In early oktober the division was send to "The Island", an area west of Arnhem and Nijmegen.
They took over the front of Brittish troops who told them it was all quiet overhere.
But within a day the airbornes had taken over control, the German 361 Volks Grenadier Division attacked the village of Opheusden for over 3 days.
Bitter fightings and heavy losses on both sides resulted but the airbornes hold ground.
Good books about this subject:

Eindhoven, 19 september 1944. A sad side of a city which was just liberated. The result of colaborating with the Germans......
It was very humiliuating to do this with women. Some didn't even colaborate with the Germans. Luckely in our village it was forbidden by the local PAN Commander. But alot of women in Holland weren't so lucky and unfortunately couldn't escape from this fate..

In the same city, this PAN "soldier" also hadn't much luck neither on 18 september 1944. He was killed in Eindhoven by a paratrooper from the 101st Airborne, who thought he was a German soldier who hide himself behind a curtain. Adrianus Luykx had his PAN armband used for identification under his belt instead of his arm so the paratrooper was unable to see him as a PAN "soldier" and shot him accidently.Attached Files
