His medals are currently present at the Luftwaffenmuseum, in Berlin.

Ok, this is rather strange, but I'm happy to know the truth behind the medals of Hauptmann Luckesch.

Recently I got an email from a friend whose living in Germany and did a trip to the famous Luftwaffe Museum. I had ask him about my doubts on Lukesch's RK, and he told me he would inquire the people in charge of that area of the museum.

The results were the next: the awards of Hauptmann Diether Luckesch that are displayed on that wing, are in fact a combination of war/post-time decorations. His Knight's Cross and EKII are '57 editions, but the OL, EKI, Pilot's badge, DKiG, Ost Medal and the bomber Clasp are all period pieces worn by Luckesch.

Those decorations were donated after the death of the pilot, in 2004.

Josef Haas died of his wonds on 22nd May 1944 and was buried at Tolkatschewo/Sebesh.
