Found this stuff in one of 90th Light's boxes of family junk. Seemingly some relative of his brought them back from France in 1918

I'm not sure what to make of this backing paper. The needle holes are quite evenly spaced for a field sewing job. There are no thread marks where the thread would have creased the paper when it was pulled tight. The top wool looks like it has small puckers from the material being squeezed between the thread loops, which is and indication that it was sewn on something. The question is was this done during the period or for effect?. As far as the badge itself, I can only spot the most obvious of repros.
