A interesting photo postcard on eBay of a machine gunner clearly wearing an embroidered cloth MG specialist badge. The Imperial War Museum has a tunic with one these cloth MG badges chain-stitched in yellow on feldgrau. But, this is the first contemporary photo I've ever seen of the badge in wear.

If you mean a normal MG badge. No, it's not. It's 100% cloth. This is likely what it looked like.

I did a zoom on the sleeve, enhanced the details in Photoshop and it's clear that it's not a normal metal badge.
