Dan, this is probably one of the finest crosses I've ever seen. I didn't even know these crosses existed. Having one prior to them recieving their official DRGM number is just awesome, for lack of a better word. THe quality and detail are classic Hansen, and then some. Did you know they were out there before you found this one? Does anyone else have one? I believe that their can only be a very small handful like this one, if that many.<!-- / message -->
This is the only one I have ever seen. It is from the Hansen Hoard. I had a chance to get one like 50-60 other people had or get one that so far as I know, is unique. I chose rarity over looks since I think the ones with the larger screwback are much prettier. From the front this one looks like any old 3 pc screwback. Since it is such an early piece and since the core is cracked, I wonder if some officer brought it back and had it replaced due to the crack (When you buy the best, you don't expect it to break) . Not likely, but I like to think it was worn. Here it is outlined in the photo of the hoard. As much as I am against cleaning them, this one needed it. It had a lot of old surface rust on the core. It came out better than I expected.

      Hoard

I assume that is the Hansen Hoard that Detlev had bought. Did you get to cherry pick the box? I don't remember this one being sold, or if it was, it was sold so fast that I didn't really pay that close attention to the cross. It very well may be a one of a kind or to say the very least a few of a kind. A cross like that really gets your heart pumping. I did notice the crack core which greatly depreciates the value, therefore, I would be willing to take this cross off your hands for a fair fee. Rightttttttttt! Didn't think you would fall for that one! Oh well!

          Hansens

Thanks for the link I checked it out. You don't see Hansen's every day, that's for sure. I got a minty one years ago, I think from D, it's been so long ago I can't remember from whom. The thing about Dan's cross that makes it so unique besides the smaller disk, is the lack of a DRGM number. This cross had to be made during the early months of the war. It's so rare, it's no way describe it. I would love to see if anyone else had an example. At least that would give some us hope that we might have a chance to acquire one in the future, as I suspect Dan will not be parting with this one anytime soon.

No cherrypicking, I got it from emedals like the link above. They had three and mine was one of the cheapest. It was the same price as a more heavily rusted "standard" Hansen. So I did kinda cherrypick....from the bottom of the barrel

Here are a couple that were waiting for me when I returned from my trip. First up, unmarked Godet.

It has a rich patina and unique reverse set up.
