I find this interesting, since to the best of my knowledge, the characteristics of a prinzen second class or any class Rothe & Neffe are not known. The first class that Stogieman endorses is apparently an Austrian made Iron Cross, I don't doubt that they made Iron Crosses in Austria, but to say it is a Rothe & Neffe, is at least to me, a reach. I try not to be toooo skeptical where these crosses are concerned, but those crosses that are generally described as a Rothe & Neffe are generally something else(AWS, Meybauers, Unknowns, etc.). I'm not questioning Stogieman's expertise on this matter, he might know something about these that I don't, I hope so, but I would love to see some hard core proof to prove that their is a Rothe & Neffe Iron Cross. I hope thier is one, but a cross made in Austria, or a trifold ribbon does not make it a Rothe & Neffe. If so, then I got a few of um'. I think the first class or one just like it was discussed on another forum, where I think Stogieman might be a Moderator, can't remember for sure. If Motorhead reads this, then maybe he can add his two cents, for he seems to be very knowledgable about these Imperial Crosses. I'm afraid the thirst for the Grail continues.........................Russel
    Russell,
This subject is somewhat new to me as my main focus has been on wound badges. I am just beginning to really dig deep into the variances of Imperial EK's so forgive my ignorance. Dan Murphy may be a good source for info you are seeking. Maye he has knowledge of the solid proof you are seeking...

You can literally learn something new every day about these Crosses, so it's nothing to forgive about trying and learning more.. I think that 1st class I was talking about may be Dan Murphy's cross. It was discussed on another forum. Beautiful cross! It resembles a cross that is in the WS family, but with a different assembly to the rear. I think it is referred to as a Type 2 WS by some. Whatever it is, it's really a nice cross, just don't believe a R&N. . I dabbled in wound badges a little myself, got turned off when I got stuck with a particular Gold wound badge after it appeared in a book, nice and engraved. Put a sour taste dabbling into something I wasn't that familiar with, retreated full time back to Iron Crosses. Still have that Badge, I believe L/63. Still have some Wound Badges, but Iron Crosses are just much more fun!

          Daniel,
You have some really great EKs there. I like the Hanson very much. I hope
to add one to the pile someday. I also noticed a Godet with FANGS.
You just have to love those
          Thanks for sharing.

            Tony,
I also do Lugers and other Imperial firearms (including an MG08 and an MP18 I), field gear and spiked helmets (I have 22 , mostly enlisted and ersatz). Don't worry though, I like the wartime stuff and don't collect dunkelblau uniforms. Yet . I am not trying to compete, we just like the same things. Here is one more member of the family although not exactly an EK1, there is one on it.

Silver flat bar stock, and a hefty catch. The patina in this area is consistent with the rest of the cross, so I am voting for period repaired.

'800' centered, and behind the pin.

Dan, this is probably one of the finest crosses I've ever seen. I didn't even know these crosses existed. Having one prior to them recieving their official DRGM number is just awesome, for lack of a better word. THe quality and detail are classic Hansen, and then some. Did you know they were out there before you found this one? Does anyone else have one? I believe that their can only be a very small handful like this one, if that many.
