            Bob,

Here is the caption on the back of this photo. The photo itself is undated. However, based on the numbering system on the photo, I can say it was originally released by the Atlantic press agency on either 22 or 23 August 1944.

Thanks guys for all the information on this photo and uniforms in wear.

Jeff, you have some of the best PL uniform shots I have ever seen. Interesting that Ley was wearing his brocade cross-strap at the Berghoff.

This illustration is from the Davis book, "German Uniforms of the Third Reich." Supposedly the pics are all from actual period photos.
If so, it is a rare shot of the brocade being worn by someone other than Ley. The other thing that makes it rare is that the book dates it as 1944, a very late date for full Goldfasan regalia. Does anyone have a b/w pic of this illustration, and who is the Gauleiter?

I think this color drawing is Grohe...here he is during the State visit to Rome, which he attended with Ley and Koch.
I have only one picture showing anyone other than Ley wearing the double brocade (belt & holster) combination. Ley is in that picture, wearing summer white dress, along with 2 other political leaders (unidentified so far).

I would love to see any pictures of brocades being worn by anyone other than Ley.

Chris, this color drawing is almost identical to the picture of Grohe shown here in Rome. I think the artist just added the brocade stuff in place of the leather rig and belt. I doubt there is any photo of Grohe shown wearing brocades. I hope someone proves me wrong !

                      schirach

What I find interesting about this photo is Schirach is wearing his HY uniform with gauleiter insignia added. Too cheap to buy a new uniform?

                          Jeff:

the color drawing supplied by Stonemint is actually taken from a photo showing gauleiter Paul Giesler and not Grohe. I believe both you and I have a copy of the photo showing Giesler.
