Unfortunately if remade Guadalcanal Diary would portray the Japanese in a sympathetic light not unlike Pearl Harbor. GD was made about the war during the war.

I would not object to Bataan being remade, although the same problems with GD would occur.

The Forgotten Soldier (be it fact or fiction) would make a good movie albeit lengthy.

Enemy at the Gates would have been a GREAT movie had they stuck to the story.

The Bridges at Toko Ri is an alltime favorite of mine. They stuck to the James Michener story quite well, even the downbeat ending.

      Hi David,

Yes, Toko-Ri really is overlooked. I think the personal aspect, fears, etc... added to the story. Sad and lonely ending that had you wondering how many times that scene really happened.

As far as GD, I think someone bold should tackle that one. I think it would definitely have to be made in a similar manner as BoB, just because of the way the book is written, reporting by a reporter. I have an original 1943 copy of the book. I love it. The photos in that book are censored. My Dad served in the Pacific during the entire war. Trying to present the Japanese in a positive light during those times is pure PC crap.

I've also heard that FS might be fiction, if that's what you were saying. Who knows? Well written and very believeable. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

Here's one for you, Campaign in Russia. I think Degrelle's story is interesting. But, would it make a good movie? I think maybe for the purist, because so many would be asking, who the hell is Leon Degrelle?

I remember Beach Red, not much though. I believe there was an invasion scene that was graphic for its time. Been looking for that on DVD as well.

I believe that was Keith Carradine and not Jon Voight who played opposite Harve Keitel. Great flick.

My personal favorite is "Gallipoli", Mel Gibson's first (and best, in my opinion).

OK, I know that I am a HUGE WWII fan BUT, this Vietnam movie takes the cake.

THE SEIGE OF FIRE BASE GLORIA

So many catch phrases in that movie that I still use them.

PS. When Trumpets fade is a good one too...saw that mentioned earlier.

I'm way back there with Tom Y. on this one. The original All Quiet on the Western Front. Technically an anti-war movie but it did give rise to the genre.

I guess I'd vote for "The Deer Hunter" and "All Quiet On The Western Front" (Original version) equally as my favorites....I liked how both movies dealt with the realities of how war changes young men...As with all past wars, being patriotic was "the thing to do".....Then when tried by war, they quickly change their attitudes and realize just what a waste war really is, and how naive they really were....Bodes

Gettysberg first, and Saving pvt. Ryan and Band of Brothers a tie 4 second. Lastly an honorable mention for the combat scene in Braveheart.

Real vets over here told this film is a wrong parody and has nothing common with the real history of this battle.

The best foreign war movie I have ever seen was the "Apocalypse Now".

I would like to go for Band of Brothers. Although it is not a "real movie", but I think it's kind of "movie". How about you guys?

                                best regards
