You probably know this, but when you do the wires/rigging in the mast, a very easy technique to use is to light a candle, take some throw away plastic parts from the model tree, and heat them up a bit.
At a certain point, take it away from the flame, start pulling, and you'll end up with perfect wires.
With a bit of practice, you can even make different diameters of wire by pulling slower or faster and, being plastic, they'll tack right on anywhere with a tiny drop of glue, and are paintable.
Far better than using any type of thread, which doesn't take paint or glue very well, and will deteriorate in time.

Thank you all very much! This is a lot of fun! (Never did a ship before ...)

Frederico, I also bought the wooden Deck ( http://www.hlj.com/product/KALMD35003) You find them also on Ebay form Korean sellers.

I knew the trick with the plastic wires already, thank you anyway! When I did it the first time I nearly flipped! It is amazing and some of the wires in post #22 are already done like that. To do it with a thin thread would drive me nuts!

          Dietrich,

Thanks for the link for the wood deck, I just ordered it!!! I prefer much more Hobby Link Japan service and prices for this type of items than e-bay.

Great DVD about the "KMS Bismarck"

            Dietrich,

A great dvd about your ship. Highly recommended.

            https://www.germanwarfilms.com/compl...p-bismarck.htm

120 minutes in german, region free. $6.99

This site has a great collection of rare original wartime (WWI & WWII) documentaries on dvd. Probably the only source left in the world. Political Correctness has driven the others out of business.

I have bought most of their selections and am very pleased. The prices are extremely reasonable. Many are in german only, some with subtitles. All from original period sources. Quick service, shipped from Arizona. The selection is growing. ( I also have bought all your excellent books. Thank you for the hard work!)

I have no relationship with the recommended dvd site, other than being a satisfied customer and supporter. I do hope they will stay in business.

Good luck with building your ship. It looks fantastic. Keep writing those great books.

            Tony

                Great work Dietrich!

I am following your techniques (and the advice from others) very carefully as I have been out of the hobby for some time.

                  Thanks Willi!

I was out for at least 12 years. But I was "building" tanks in 1:16 and painting figures. Never did a ship since I thought it is too small and not decorative enough. But I can tell you one thing: this ship is very decorative!

Some of my earlier "work" attached.

Outstanding figures Dietrich! Really impressive work.
A few weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend the souther california miniature show which is dedicated to figure modeling. Some of the best figure painters in the world were there and I enjoyed seeing the results of their talents immensely. I have never done any figures myself, but I might have to give it a try.
                      best wishes,
                      jeff

You really should! It is a ton of fun. Acrylics is fairly easy, oil is more challenging (the Prussian guy is oil). You never know unless you try!

I am done. Maybe some bending of bent rails, some more rigging.... but at this point in time I need a brake from "him".

I ordered the HMS Hood by Trumpeter, together with the wooden deck by KA Models and the Super Detail Set from Lion Roar. Both will have a very nice spot at little below eye level in our living room at the wall. Have to order the acryl display box... people tend to look with their fingers ..

Meanwhile I have discovered my love for 1:700 waterline models!
