Matt, That is a supperb group!

Mark what a way to finish the year off with such a rare textbook cap. Great boards as well Paul & Paolo very nice caps!

This year has probably been one of the best years for me aquiring a no' of exceptionally nice/rare named 2NZEF Tunic groupings to vets who served in Afrika ,Crete & Itally.

However over the past 18 months I have also digressed to include
German Dak/Tropical items back into my collection and fortunate to aquire some of my old tropical items back from my German collecting days. Along with that I've been able with the help of some longtime collecting friends add some nice pieces.

The cap is a nicely worn Alfred Valet with original applied insignia and remnants of Pz grenadair soutach threads.

The Real gem in this photo although not off significant value compared to the rest of the items is the New Zealand made nPz MKII Dessert painted helmet. This is my most treasured item in my collection. The helmet is named to a New Zealand 20th Battalion officer who wore this helmet both in the western dessert , Crete, and later Itally. His best mate was Charlie Upham VC & Bar , when Captain Uphams Bronze statue was sculpted this helmet was loaned by the family to the sculpter to copy as Chalies helmet had long dissapeared. The net on this helmet was a common net used by many 20 Batt members, field made from fishing nets from Cyprus.

The 2nd pattern boots a Christmas present from my dear wife.

The Helmet is a sand textured m35 reputed to be one of 6 found togeather that were to have come from the 21Pz Div supply colm.

Very early NZEF Side cap with green backed Div-cav badge that has undoubtedly been through the western front .

Bayonet is a very recent aquisition and was told by the seller that the wife of the vet had walked into his shop with this in her bag and said that her husband had picked this bayonet/frog & scabbard up from the Abbey (monte Casino). However the colour is very much a pinky/orangy tan colour which may have originally been done by a Ramcke paratrroper in Afrika.
I guess we will never know for sure but sure is a talker in hand.
    Merry Xmas Every one
    Greg

Very nice additions Matt and Greg.
Don't forget to keep me in mind if you ever decide to part with any of the German tropical items Greg. I'm always open to good items returning to the collection.

        Have a goood Christmas.

        Mark

P.S. The boots were definitely well worth it. They look great.

Greg you know just how much I like boots so what can I say, you wife sure gives great gifts ,, the helmets & bayonets, well with stories like that I am guessing they will be locked in your collection for quite some time !

ah the feild cap, I know just how you feel so I have added mine to this thread , so to both of us " if only " ,, but hey they are still both very desirable early caps .. A very Merry Christmas to you and yours and thanks for sharing ,,

Love the caps with our without soutache.
Here is my complete cap selection for 2011 bringing the total collection to 12 caps and sidecaps. It would have been 13 but Greg was after a cap .

              Alfred Valet 1942 Signals
              Carl Halfar 1941 Panzer
              Robert Lubstein 1940 Rifle Regiment
              Lago 1940 Panzer
              Emil Schebeler 1940 Panzer

              It's been quite a year.

Thanks Mark,Tall boots are such an iconic piece of the Dak there's really nothing quite like them or compares to them from other branchs and the quality of them considering how many were produced amazes me. 2012 is already looking to be another great year lets hope a few more items find there way back across the Tasman or the Pacific or even from home for that matter.

Mark you have had an incredible year and to think you were thinning your collection. I realy like that Emil Schebeler cap you aquired early in the year gotta find my self an early m40 os cap in the future..

Thanks Paul, What a great cap absolutely supperb example the colour of the remnants looks of the early Rifle Reg-type soutach.
And yes I think my wife is definately worth hanging onto. She has been so supportive of my passion over the years..

                Cheers
                Greg

Lots of great stuff posted, whilst sadly I have not bought any DAK/Trop stuff for a while, bought a house instead.

                        Regards,

                        Jerry.

PS, is that a Luft tropenhelm on the mannequin Helmet?

Merry Christmas to those who have made a positive contribution to WAF over the previous year.
