I've be putting this one together for several months. The tunic came out of a very old (35 year plus) collection as did the boots. I'm just the third collector to own the boots. The first collector obtained them directlly from the German Vet in the 60's.
Well any way, let me show my newest mannequin,.....I call him "ObersLeutnant Wilhelm (Willy)Steinman", das Luftwaffe flak-regiment 135, Panzerarmee Afrika , September 1942. (sorry):

          Hi Team,
Some of you might know that I have held a strong belief that 3rd pattern tunics were issued and used in N.Africa/Tunisia as early as late 1942. After a previous thread regarding this 'issue' went as far as it could I kept my eyes open for period images of soldiers in tropical uniforms, trying to pin down a timeline for issue tropical tunics. Well, I hit paydirt early last week with a photo off ebay.
This original is of an obergefrieter in a newly issued 3rd pattern and m40 cap, (still with soutache!). The best part is on the reverse - his name and fieldpost number - and most importantly a date.
The fieldpost is to the 10th Panzer Div', and the date 19/12/42 - just one day before a photo was taken of an officer of the 501 Tiger Battalion embarking from Italy to Tunisia also wearing a 3rd pattern.

This, for me, is absolute proof, and lays to rest any arguement that these tunics saw service on North African soil in 1942.
I look forward to any other opinions,
          Regards,
          Mark.

Outstanding Mark!! What a great find. I think your spot on with this one. Would you mind if I put this one in my photo file?

              Hi Fred,
Certainly! Anyone can copy this one. (I can't wait to see it on ebay again... )Although an average image, I think it is historically important to our understanding of tropical uniforms and their use.

I reckon it says Neapel Mark.
Embarkation at the end of December from Naples, which was the main emabarkation point for Afrika bound troops.
I know for a fact that elements of 10 panzer departed from Naples to Tunisia.
If he went across by boat then it was a very dangerous journey at this stage of the campaign.

                  Thanks Phil,
If Naples, even better(But as you say, it was not a trip to look forward to if you were heading to Tunis by boat).

Here is a set of DAK NCO boards to add to the collection here already.
Some of you may have seen these before and wondered where they are now

                        Hi Tim,
Super straps. You can't go wrong with standard pattern straps with no issues!
Here's my latest, a named 1940 Carl Halfar with removed Panzergrenadier soutache.
The eagle and rondel are re-attached, before anyone asks
                        Regards,

                                Greetings to all -

I would like to offer my donation to this outstanding thread as well.

Erich Duhmke was a Luftwaffe flak gunner assigned to duty in North Afrika as part of the German Afrikakorps. He received at least the 1939 Iron Cross II Class, and the "AFRIKA" campaign cuff title. I am certain that he must have earned the Luftwaffe Flak qualification badge as well although I do not have evidence to substantiate this.

I hope you will find my contribution enjoyable and of some interest.

                                Frank
