"A trick of the light", they have bellows.

I would like to see other examples of those "flat wire collar insignia" as shown in R.Kurtz's book.

      Thank you,

NZMark, thanks for great display with soldbach and your tunic, exactly what I was looking for.... Of your other 1st Pattern tunics, are any dated '41 with the large upper pockets ? Or '42 like Mark G's ? That Pz tunic is one of my favs of your outstanding collection, thanks agian.

Mark G, also thanks for great pic showing the two different pocket sizes on these splendid tunics of yours...again the sage green Pz tunic really catches my eye. Also for the measurements of your tunic's pockets size.
The Officers upgrade of yours is really a treasure The boards are slips ?
Can you post pic of the underside of collar & tabs and also Eagle application ?
Does the thread match on the Eagle and Tabs ? And does the thread itself display fading ? And no sign of tk's either, very interesting... As you know the 1st Co, 8th Pz regt arrived at Tobruk May 9th, '41 with the rest of the first Bn arriving in the next week, 2nd Bn arriving on May 28th. serving through the entire North African campaign till the surrender....

Hi Robert, your tunic is good looking third pattern and the fact that it is date stamped F '43, does lead to the possibility that it could have been in Tunisia...And (if) the # 8th cyphers & boards are original to the tunic, it could be from the DAK. Can you post pic of tab underside ? Thanks.
The 8th Pz regt /& 15th Pz Div DAK were not rebuilt later in the war, unlike 21st Pz Div. However 21st Pz Div did not contain 5th Pz regt, which was not rebuilt either...

When did the large pocket first appear on the 1st pattern tunic, are there '41 dated examples with the large pockets ?

Last will show my green tunic (again) which has small pockets, 5 1/4"x 4 1/2" so is early version also. The size/ depoy stamps have faded out a long time ago. The same thread has been used to sew the tabs and eagle, and the thread displays fading from wear when compared to the underside too. The boards are sewn, with an olive green thread like the tunic itself. No sign of tk's.

Again thanks to all who contribute to this great thread started by JL.

        best regards
        Tim

              Hi Tim,
I checked two other 1st pattern top pockets I have and neither will allow a soldbuch. In this first picture I've placed the paybook in my StuG tunic. Not enough depth at all to close the flap. All stampings are washed out in this tunic, so we can hazzard a guess that it is of early manufacture?
Second is a 1941 dated 1st pattern. I cannot even place the book in the pocket for comparison.
I had another '41 dated 1st pattern earlier this year, but did not take note of the upper pocket sizes before selling it on.
Let's hear from anyone else with early 1st patterns? What are your breast pocket dimension like?? INTERESTING
              Regards,
              Mark.

                  Mark

Two more great examples. Now we should also ask, does anyone have a 1st pattern tunic with the small pocket dated '42 ? While not conclusive this could narrow down the timelines on these tunics still surviving today.
Would like to hear what other DAK collectors collections reveal on this ?

                  thanks
                  Tim

I've seen some not so good and some very good copies of the Army dak long boots, has anyone done produced any good quality copies of the Luft thigh tropical boot, the one with the flap and cross over strap? Ive owned one pair, very used, and have what looks to be an unissued pair, which look good to me, but I'm curious if there exists passable copies of these, thanks

Greetings fellow DAK collectors, would like to see more & hear more from all of You about the DAK ? Here are a couple of DAK officers photos. The first Officer is wearing an early 1st pattern with the small upper pockets.

Very good photos Tim. I actually went through every page of this thread yesterday and am so impressed by the amount of material posted in here. The thread has been through it's ups and downs, many pictures deleted, friends made and tensions. Throughout this we have always come back to what is important, sharing our passion for the DAK with our fellow collectors and hopefully making many friends whilst doing so.

                                Take care
