Hello, Here is a 100% set of white piped EM boards with brown wool underlay.
I have other items that I would like to show, but, at this point, I don't think I will do so!
I am going to help Michael out by showing him the pair of boards that I just purchased, but after that, then that will be it. No more pics!

Thank you very much! I feel quite sure these boards are very rare indeed! Add to this the fact that they are well used makes them a great find indeed!
And Grant ... please don't let the momentary laps in adult behavior of a very few prevent you from sharing your knowledge and wonderful collection with the majority of us who eagerly look forward to them.
At this point I feel certain that all who read these posts will be more measured in what they say here. Regardless the civil among us should not be the ones ostracized!

I have opened my SS cloth collection and tried to help educate other collectors, so that, they will not get burned on high quality fakes, etc...
Now, I have other items that I would like to show, but, at this point, I don't think I will do so!

never ever feel that you can't post anything that you have and be proud of what you are able to acquire. Sure, I admitted quite openly that I was jealous of your ability to add such a large amount of items in such a short time and wish that I were able to do the same. No big deal. Jealousy or envy, I don't have any problems openly admitting such a thing, which I have. Don't let my comments stop you from ever sharing anything.
I have to tell you that any problems between collectors here are not caused by you showing your collection, a few collectors here have had problems with others for a very long time and nothing to do with you. Sorry that you feel that you are the cause. You are not.
Take care
Mark

Hello all, would like to join this good discussion
Grant (or anyone else) Please do not stop posting pics of your outstanding collections. Everyone gains from each others knowledge and collections. If someone is jealous its just envy that they did not find the piece themselves but everyone reading this will agree that any DAK find is a good one these days...if expert or novice like myself.
Christopher thankyou for posting the photo of 3rd Recon Bn. I can not tell what color the piping is from this photo but agree it looks yellow or pink to me, not dark at least. I think this photo was in color or perhaps from a film clip ?
I remember seeing a very similar photo some time ago in color but do not remember where or the color of piping, will see if I can find it again.
This photo shows the initial popularity of the tropenhelm, early Pz regt 5 photos also show the tropenhelm getting extensive use till its awkwardness became apparent to everyone and the M40/OS caps became the norm. Thanks!
Actually Chris, 90th Lt and I have been talking about this for sometime. When 3rd arrived it wore black still and was issued tropical kit a few days later. Sometime ago we learned that the DAK were only issued either an OS cap or M40 along with Tropenhelm, not both (at least not the early arrivals). Also learned that the non pink-soutached OS caps seem only to appear after early '42 till Aug '42. Before early '42 almost all OS caps were pink piped in Afrika.
So if my info is correct (not saying with certainty), did the 3rd & 33rd receive yellow piped OS caps in '41 or only piped M40's or non-piped OS caps ??
Perhaps 3rd Recon did not receive any yellow piped OS caps till later too ?
Has anyone ever seen non-pink piped OS caps dated '40-41, yellow, green, white etc piped tropical OS cap ever ?? Seems like I have photos of 3rd SDKFZ crewman wearin piped OS caps in '41 maybe still black OS caps too ?
That motorcycle photo could be from 5th Pz regt not 3rd recon as a Pz regt had its own motorcycles in its HQ sec. besides those in a Recon Bn. They would wear pink just like the cooks or tank repair Co or anyone else in the Pz regt. Only the actual Pztroopen would wear the tk's but everyone in the PZ regt wore rosa. The 5th Lt Div arrived in black wraps and "went tropical" just a few days later in Afrika, many did not attach the tk to the tropical tunic yet.. but kept them on the black wraps, Mark G has a tunic demonstrating this.
The 8th Pz regt "went tropical" in Germany before departure, almost all of its members attached the tk's before arrival in Afrika photos demonstrate this also.
The 7th Pz regt in Tunisia (not DAK) wore the black coller tab and tk together on the tropical tunic (again photos confirm this) so many variations are possible, just saying the 5th did not display the tk's as often as the other two Pz regts in Afrika but certainly wore them too. Have include photo of DAK PZ Ltn tunic but no tk's....
Mike, your study of color piping in black n white photos is very interesting. Many of us have tried to tell and it is just not possible to tell with certainty.
While DAK Herr flak units did wear white, many DAK wore the Jager green.
The green piping was used instead of white for the 2 & 8 MG Bn as as well as all the DAK Mot Inf units, except the MG Officers retained their white piping still even during the attack on Tobruk in April. I have seen a Lt Col tunic taken at Tobruk by the Aussies, it is bleached with white piping, and has dirt staines on the stomach area from lying on the ground quite a bit....beautiful item.
So agree that white piping is rare in DAK. though later in Tunisia some units wore white. Green and pink were most common of all which is shown by surviving pieces of early DAK gear today.
Pauke welcome to this great site, and thankyou for confirming 3rd wearing yellow at arrival in Afrika, look forward to your thoughts & knowledge...
Again just wish to Thank all the DAK collectors and students on this thread....

Both "Marks" speak in terms of kindness and charity, but we have all seen how their jealousy affects the serenity of others and hence - true values and inner workings. Self-proclaimed self-righteousness is in reality sanctimonious self-absorbedness. Since you cannot have what others earn, work for and buy ("Who Dares Wins"), your unbridled jealousy prompts you to seek to destroy their joy and happiness. Thus is the extent of your charity and benevolence. But, there's old Chinaman's saying: "an unaccepted gift remains with the giver."
Well, nice to know that THAT record is still broken How dependable.
Careful Christopher - you just might get yourself into trouble again for libellous postings. Fair Warning.
Grant,
You know my view of your wonderful items. Enough Said.
Tim - I'd like to see more of that tunic?
As always - a well balanced, carefully thought out posting.
Alphared - Take care as to who offers "advice" on this forum. A VERY few obviously have their own agendas - (but dross is very easy to weed out) - good to see you posting.
Best Regards.
Mark.
PS - I'm jealous, too!!

Hello,
Getting back to what we're here for, I thought that I may as well post a pic of something coming my way soon thanks to a good friend in Germany. His friend came across these items at a yard sale or house clearance so my friend let me know of them. He arranged for me to add them to the collection instead of his friend placing them on ebay. I'm very grateful for this (although I'm still trying desperately to raise the funds and frustratingly without much luck).
Looking forward to everyone posting more of their collections and will take the time to do some detailed photographs of a few of my pieces in the near future as well. I also hope to see many of your new additions Grant, but don't forget to leave a few items for the rest of us.
Take care and happy collecting

Mark G. and Mark T.,
Thanks for the private PM's. I understand that "old wounds" among collectors can sometimes never be rectified or even end. I just didn't want to cause any hardships or contuining jealousy and I am not here to pound on my chest, saying "look at me and all of my goodies that you cannot have". I just wanted to share pics of original and seldom seen items for all to enjoy and learn from. I still consider myself a "novice" collector in DAK items and hold both Mark's to be well knowledged in this area and all of us have a lot to learn from both gentlemen. Well, enough said. I will continue to show some pics of my items.
Some of you have sent me emails and PM's wanting to know if I will part with anything. As of right now, I don't want to sell or part with anything. Although, I might consider some trades, later on, on some of my single boards to try to make some matches. Please stay in touch with me and maybe we can work something out.
Anyway, Here is close up pics of the "sun bleached" NCO PZ. Gren. 1st pattern tunic with matching M41 hat. Enjoy, Grant.Last edited by Hohenstaufen; 10-29-2008, 08:31 AM.
