Ben, I personally never saw a true factory produced webb MP 44 (or K98) sling.

This being said, I handled some original MP 40 and MG 42 webb slings. So, why not a K98-style webb sling ? My personal experience doesn’t imply that these didn’t exist : I just would keep an open mind about this possibility.

Is the serial matching on all parts?

          Hey Mark,
Is it a matching mp44? The camo is realy cool, haven't seen one just like that but it looks good from here If you are ever interested in selling it, let me know

          Thanks for sharing,
          Michael

‘Cool’ is the very right word, Jean-Loup, especially considering that this weapon had been whitewashed to be used under utmost ‘cool’ winter conditions !

Yes, Ken and Michael, the serial numbers are apparently all matching. I say ‘apparently’ because some numbers are only barely discernible under the paint ... and I don’t really wish to strip off the original paint. Not that I refuse to do, but rather that there’s no need for it. I explain: the main serial number (located on the receiver, in front of the “ac/45”) is indeed hidden under the paint, but this doesn’t trouble me as the number is clearly repeated on the rear of the trigger housing. Also, the number on the stock is readable under the paint but the same number remains (and will remain) hidden on the underside of the metallic connection ring on the stock. Of course, the serial number is fully apparent on the gas piston/operating rod.

I’m sorry that I must disappoint you Michael, but I do not intend to sell this weapon. Some of the collectors who have seen this MP 44 in real showed the same interest in buying/trading it, but I’m conscious that it’s probably the only one I will ever have (or see) in my life !

            Best,
            Mark

Many thanks to All for your replies,

As, judging by the posts on the Uniform Forum, the Sturmgeschütz-Jacke seems (at last) to become some significant uniform to collect, I wanted to post some pictures of the Ski-Jäger wrapper I briefly showed over there.

In the last years of the war, the “Elite” Ski-Jäger troops were issued the Feldgrau wrapper as part of their uniform. This was, in fact, some logical return to the very origins of the Panzer wrapper ... having been developed from the ski clothing.

In my collecting years I have seen several “classic” Sturmgeschütz-Jacken with piped or with Totenkopf ornamented collar patches. In comparison, the Ski-Jäger wrapper definitely looks plain and much less attractive to the eye because of the unadorned Litzen. However, such wrappers as worn by the Ski-Jägers, are much more rare than the ‘classic’ Sturmgeschütz ones.

                              Mark

Anyway, let’s go to the pictures :

Open position. See how off-angle the eagle has been originally sewn on ! The shoulder straps are not original to the wrapper and common Panzergrenadier’s ones were provisionally added. Not any (nor trace of) Ski-Jäger arm badge is visible on the arm.

For a change : infrequent view with closed lapels and collar.
