Has anyone seen this type of strap arrangement before. Look close what is different on it. I didn't notice it at first then I saw it. It has a buckle is this rare or just another manufacturing technique. I hope to find the rest of a strap to complete this one day so if anyone out there has the missing straps for this let me know.

            Hi Fritz,

Here is what the complete canteen looks like. Mine is a "HRE43".

Nice collection and nice side hobby!

If I remember correctly I think I have a ESB 34, and some other early ones following that year. I will take pics here in about two weeks of some of the earlier ones. I found out that that orange cup was a repro so I traded it to a reenactor. I am still looking for an original one though. Same with some later war cups for some of my late war canteens without the cups. Here is an early one I just got that I am in the process of restoring when I get home. I just picked this early one of of ebay last week.

1935 WAL I will need to find an alluminum clip and buckle for it.

              <a href="http://s256.photobucket.com/albums/hh168/heady506th/?action=view&current=1935a.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh168/heady506th/1935a.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The cap matches the canteen and I will post a picture of this one when finished.

Nice canteen Willi. I do buy canteens to restore such as the one I just showed. Hopefully I find the pieces you just showed one day. I used to think no way I would find parts to complete these things. I used to pass up on buying canteens for parts in the old days. Not anymore. Why.... check this story out.... I found a political canteen with a tropical harness on it and just so happened to have a tropical without a harness with a political harness. It was after that I got hooked on restoring these beautiful babies....

                Willi,
Thanks I hear you reenact FJ as well. Here is one of my pride and joy canteens that was brought back from the abyss. Believe it or not I bought this in a huge lot of canteens from Europe and the canteens harness while still with all alluminum hardware was brittle and in pieces. I had Troy Allison take the parts use new leather and leave it early war brown. The canteen itself I belive is a 38 dated one with multiple dents and the cover well I had to gently over a two month time period clean as it was as brittle as the leather. End result a canteen that is priceless that a collector may not want but is beautiful to reenact with.

It looks like great example of winter camo on canteen. Can You, please, add some more pictures of this beauty?
