A new addition to the museum.

Very juicy 1943 dated UNISSUED coco canteen.

Only thing missing is a cup.

When I received this it was not even finished....the straps where not assembled on the canteen body...only the leather neck strap was holding the web to the body of the canteen..... the front strap was not assembled..I had to put the leather neck strap through the front web loop to complete the assembly.

The canteen body is in perfect shape and its still rough to the touch...i think it still needed to go past the finish sander to sand off the flash from the molds...looks like it only has 1 quick pass.

The hook & front buckle have no paint loss and look to have never been mounted & the leather neck strap is as soft as a baby's bottom.

Here is how it looks when I got it.......

          Canteens.

          Frozzer,

The only mark I could find was "R&K" on the inner strap that holds the d-ring clip where its attached to the main strap.

            HI

I found R&K too, also I found RBNr - 0/0560/0156 - the same RBNr I found on chinstraps and D-ring belt loops

                            Canteens.

                            PZO,

This is a first for me.

The cover looks like it is made from a very light material? is it lined with felt on the inside?

                            Interesting catch.

Just a short question - have you ever seen coconut canteen from 1944 ?

Have seen many from 1941, 1942, 1943 and from 1945 - but never one from 1944
Never heard about any from 1944 ....

                              Regards
                              Marcin

                                Marcin,

I have never seen a COCO dated 44....I have 41,42,43 & 45 in my collection but no 44. Maybe the plant was damaged by an air raid etc?? in late 43 so that they were out of production for the bulk of 44.....or they switched production to another style of canteen due to raw material shortages....an interesting question indeed.
