I would think some items would fade over time just being on display. 83 years is a long time. What affected dose having a camo item on display for 20 years have.

For those who have had camo items for more than 20+ years, has there been much fading of the colors? I wonder if something was folded up in a trunk/garage/attack/basement and not in direct sunlight if there would actually be fading?

No if folded out of sunlight it would not fade. Like stuff in a shop new clothes they fade if left there to long the blacks blues ect.
So having say a dot tunic on display for 20+ years then surely there will be fading.
Rather than keeping it in a trunk.
Maybe thats where a lot of these faded trunics are coming from old collections thats had them on display for years.

I have a dot Tunic battle worn with a big blood stain on it. But has darker spots where it looks somone had a belt tied around it to tight so over lapped.

The amount of fading will depend on the type of light items on display are exposed to. Direct sunlight, fluro tubes or harsh lighting will fade/destroy colours and material - this is why museums are always darkly light rather than well light.

I have a set of American WWII camouflage overalls that was well and truly used by my father after he picked them up in Vietnam in 1969. The outer green camouflage colours are extremely faded while inside the pockets is nowhere near as bad.

Not all the fading was for postwar use. When at the end of hostilities this tunic was 'civilized', showed up this contrast.
