Many of the posts on thread have made the subject of the HR "market" (I hate that term as it is used in collecting) and prices much more complicated than it is.

There are been no tanking in any of this material. Some folks are spazing over what they think that they are seeing or (and more usually) what they want to see.

No one has controlled HR sales in the past or now, although some may want to think that they positioned themselves to do so....and I may not be referring to who many assume that I am.

I saw an Exc condition and 100% real HR for sale on a collector's table at the SOS about 4-5years ago for 6k and that was without talking him down any...it was there for a least the first day and half.....yes some were asking 12K for similar rings then and later(most were closer to 8-10K) but rings could be found for 8K without much problem...and all of this has been the case since about 2005....when prices were climbing up (again) on all of this material.

Prices are driven ONLY by what people pay for this material.....when buying slows, prices drop....it is that simple. The other fact that is simple is that SOME people can generally sell in item for more money than others can with the same item.......accept it. They are reasons for that and some are good and some are not.....but believe it because it is true and will help some people on this thread understand some things that they seem very confused about right now.

In fact, if you find the right person, they will probably just give you an honor ring for free, because no one wants to pay anything for these things anymore. I was actually thinking about putting a wanted add here and offering to pay two or three thousand dollars per ring, to anyone who wants to get rid of these things before they completely tank, but I figured that it would be a bad investment, so I'll pass up on them from now on and just wait for the free ones to fall in my lap. I really think that if things continue to go as they have been so far, that people might actually pay you to take them off of their hands because owning an honor ring can possibly make the rest of your collection drop in value. What on earth are we to do about this horrible crisis?

OK, I admit it...you made me laugh more than once while reading it. I imagined (Monty python) John Cleese's voice intoning it.

John, maybe it is just me, but I actually enjoy the look of worn rings better than unworn looking examples.

        Beautiful.

I'm glad to see that heavily worn EM ring remains in your collection Michael. I loved owning that piece.

Nobody is giving away free TK rings ...that's a fantasy , so anybody who falls for a story like that that has a ring and thinks its worthless is not wrapped too tight, and a few fries short of a happy meal, and anybody telling such tripe stories is being very disingenuous, and borderline disreputible,as it is just the opposite... although I agree with mr fay...I would rather have a real combat worn ring like the one sitting on the top of the real beaten one...as IMO the wear doesn't effect value at all, only its originality , provenance and to be able to trace it to a colorful killer who wore it non stop until captured in combat.. I am not saying it isn't impossible to have been given a real cheap deal fro a vet with one he brought home, especially if his health is failing , but the chances now are all but nill to have that situation happen. I have one similar to fays...and it is actually charged by the aura of the man who owned it, if you checked it using psycometry, it would tell all about its owners experiences, but you can't wear them or clean them then expect to get a good reading...I wont even handle mine outside a plastic bag ,nor allow anyone else who wants to see it hold it in their bare hand either. Of course there are many who do not understand how psychometry works, but it really does, and is not that difficult to master or learn.sorry I put some of you to sleep....WAKE UP!!

I agree. There is something about the worn rings that are more appealing, (at least to me). Since I am not a paying member, I can't post a pic of mine, but it is on GDC if anybody cares to look. Ron

Can psychometry help me get the winning lottery numbers?

In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Only if you are holding "the" winning lottery ticket... otherwise you will be out of luck... lol

Maybe psychometry can help determine future prices. I'd take a psychometrist's predictions over a dealer's.

HStuf. Hans Bernhard ring / LSSAH

My favorite ring can be seen at 1 minute and 8 seconds:

                              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN6tnrbq6n0

                              It is post-war, but priceless.

The ring and rest of the estate was sent to me by the daughter when Hans passed.

Hans wore his ring each day until his death. Never put it off.

Hauptsturmführer Hans Bernhard wrote the foreword to my book on "Teddy Wisch" and was the Leibstandarte Ic, O1 and temporary Ia.

His military career is also included in the book.

A great friend and help for the biography, since he personally evacuated Wisch from the battlefield at Falaise.

I still maintain contact with parts of the family.

I am glad that the information he provided, the interviews and photos will still be of much use for my current work on Sepp Dietrich.

                              Rest in Peace my friend!

Interesting thread and I certainly not want to hijack it but I have a small question. Why are there rings that show so much wear. Was the silver softer in those days?May sound stupid But I have bought mine from Peichl at least twenty years ago and it is on my finger from that day and sure it shows some wear but not to the extend as the posted rings.

                                Just an observation .
