Please allow me to present a somewhat different view on Steve Wolfe. My first dealings with Steve started in 1978 at his Lakewood store. I was a single/unmarried Marine Captain with a keen interest in military history and (thanks to Jimmy Carter) not much in the way of disposable income. The Steve Wolfe I met and dealt with always welcomed me warmly and spent as much time as I wanted asking about the items in his store and about military collecting in general. I purchased a number of very nice items from Steve (none of the high-end, personality category), most of which I still have today. Though Steve had a number of doctors/lawyers as buyers back then, he never once made me feel that I was unimportant to him.
In my middle age now and married with five kids, much as I want to continue to actively collect militaria I can't make that happen and pay tuition checks. In fact, I haven't made any additions to my collection in over twenty-five years. Every so often I still give Steve a call and even visit at his house. He always returns my calls and we renew our discussions on our hobby as if we were back in the Bunker in Lakewood. He knows I am no longer buying and have no interest in selling any of my holdings. There is no real business interest for him to stay connected with me, yet he does.
Some of the harsh, angry descriptions of Steve I read in this thread and in some others do not match-up with the person I have known for over 30 years. One man's perspective....

In CG instance, it looks like a case of point taken
theres just something weird and creepy about calling an SS uniform "sexy" especially considering his jewish lineage
whats next? sexy human lampshades?
or sexy Stutthof concentration camp human soap?

Personally, I think to inflate the price from $6,000 USD 9 yr ago to $34,000 today is just ridiculous but that's just my opinion. Someone (S.Wolfe?) made alot of money along the way.

The telling of an experience isn't "Bashing" if its the truth. I was treated quite well by many dealers. But I also heard the snarky talk about other people not present and was encouraged who and who not to buy from. Its not uncommon in the hobby. I prefer to stay with truth though and not see threads derailed by those who get a laugh out of personalities. What a persons religion or sexual preference is should be left alone its how they conduct business that is relevant to what they try and sell.
I showed those tunics so people could see the fact that despite my years of posts on Sieder sleeve eagles a dealer can ignore it all and sell one anyway. All they need are customers who like them and trust them...and that they are polite to when they contact them. The only dealer who was ever rude to me no longer is a dealer. Cordial behavior has nothing to do with it except to keep the customer happy.
Remember Simon from the UK with his vast collection of made up tunics who insisted the dealer was a stand up guy who reassured him everyone else didn't know anything...to this day that dealer is still in business and his name never discussed on a forum. I was told if I ever tried it would be denied. I think now I take the position that if you get ripped off by not listening its your own fault. Simon for whatever reason took his anger out on those who made him see the truth...myself included, sending me an angry email asking that I never say who he bought most of his tunics from.

Reminds me of my last ex boss. His own best friend warned him not to do business with a certain guy who had been convicted of fraud a number of times. So my boss ignores his friend's advice and loses $40,000 dealing with this guy. Some people have no common sense.

Well as of late not too many interesting threads..a few "is this real" threads which IMO by now use of the pinned threads and the search engine should be helpful...not much of the substantial things like this tunic being posted maybe because no one can afford them any longer? Because when they are posted the price becomes an issue as in this thread. But I think the Totenkopf Tuxedo badge thread just blew everyones head out of LALA land and after things get to a point you get threads by the majority, collectors who cant collect anymore because of issues like fakes and price gouging. Reality.

For those of you who do not get it, 34k is a totally preposterous sum of money for a tunic with no provenance and not named. It's the price you pay when you got a picture of the Guy wearing the Tunic during the period and his name is on the Label and you know where it's been for at least around 40 years. And it has to be somebody cool and a really desirable tunic. WHOOSSHH, I say go F*** a Duck!
This Tunic aside I have got some nice items from the Duck at reasonable prices, but this one...WOW!
