Would Jon be able to tell based on his expertise that if he offered it today he would ask $34K. What would specifically be considered a fair/unfair/gouge price? Would the price then be over $60 in 5-6 years? Best, Bill

You are 100 % correct. This is a very bad behaviour!
The problem is that he has "followers"
He tries to give lessons to the entire world and talk about things he never saw, things he never had in hands.
They behave like "cow boys" always hidden behind the monitors of their computer.
Too much arrogancy here .

If I would be the owner or a potential buyer I certainly would not be happy about that kind of behaviour - it is just bad behaviour.
And why?

This is the Cavalry Officer tunic I sold for $17,000....I put it on the estand for $17,500. I did not think it would sell and hoped it wouldn't to be honest. I did it though because my wife needed a new car . Im not sure how long ago it was, around three years. What would it be worth today I do not know....I even told the buyer I could never imagine paying that much and could never buy it back. It probably is the one uniform I regret selling often...It was a tunic ,trousers, boots, and suspenders and I bought it from Bruce Herman who was selling it for a forum member...I flew to Los Angeles to pick it up at the Pamona show. While there several other forum members had a chance to look at it too in person. The tunic is made of moleskin and was quite worn and soiled but in great condition. I am on the fence where prices are concerned I do not agree with the high prices...but that said a person can put whatever price they want to and if someone pays it only justifies the pricing.....I honestly didn't think this one would be sold..but when the offer came I did not back down...Greed is every mans problem not just some. Now I choose a simpler life and only buy what I think is reasonable and to keep not resell...smaller items and from outside the collector /dealer circles.Attached FilesLast edited by John Pic; 04-27-2012, 06:08 PM.

Arran yes you are correct there was a black Himmler uniform and a Grey one but it was not Weitze who sent me the pictures it was another dealer. I do not know where they originated....that same dealer offered me a tunic that I later purchased from Kai Winkler and had never been in the other dealers possesion...

What's up with all of us?
That was an awesome tunic, John - there is no-one around here that will ever forget it, I'm sure!
All the bickering and begrudging across the entire spectrum of TR collecting has been such a drag (on all of us?) over the years . . . if you stop to look around, no doubt it's taking a big toll . . . all the names that used to get along, now all seem to be spiteful of one another (maybe it has always been this way, but it appears to be all the more prominently displayed?) . . . and another depressing episode en route here again! True - I am no angel . . . and well aware of some of my previous spouts of corrsoive venom. But the atmosphere amongst all of us "feels" worse than ever in many posts . . . and seems to be to continuing it's neverending spiral downward - where did everything go wrong?

N. C Wyeth I think it went wrong because there are too many high end fakes and too many promoters of those who offer them lots of greed and no real concern for the items just the value they have, coupled by behind the scenes deals that cant be exposed without a war, too much shadiness and its been around a long time its not new.........And in regards to being referred to as an "expert" by Mr.Borque I do not believe in experts in this hobby Ive known quite a few who enjoyed that status and attention and do not know a damn thing and behind the table they laugh and admit it but still like the attention it gets them because people think they can tell how old thread is and cloth and every single variation...years of debates on these forums should tell you there are no real experts...Heck the magical $40,000 Panzer Wrap from the veteran...no wait it changed to POW in Arizona...that turned out to be a reworked great coat made up by someone out west, fooled many experts didnt it including our leading Panzer expert ?Last edited by John Pic; 04-27-2012, 06:37 PM.

I have to disagree with you here, John- experts do in fact exist in every field. Many fields have a means for vetting or determining expertise. In militaria collecting we don't, and so the term "expert" is often inappropriately applied. Rest assured experts are out there, just not necessarily out to be publicly recognized as such...

Good because this thing about elaborate rare groupings being "discovered" has been going on for a while now...there was a KC holders,Helmut Schreiber, tunic name tags and all ,I posted it on this forum, it supposedly came from the family but it had a fake eagle...there was another KC winner, Franz -Josef Dreike, grouping offered by a dealer, the same who sent me pics of the Himmler tunics about 12 years ago it was pulled from his site when some of us pointed out the fake eagle on a forum. The sellers who offered all these work closely together....the Sieder eagles are not used any longer....it would be interesting to see what bird is on that Fegelein tunic. There was also the supposed Werner Poetschke panzer wrap sold to a UK collector as "from the family" that turned out to be a fraud.
