I had this old time collector, well known in the community, tell me he went to a show one time. A young collector, who knew who he was, came up and showed him something SS he had just bought. This older collector inspected it and then told him that it wasn't authentic. The young collector turned on him and told him he didn't know what he was talking about; that the dealer assured him that the artifact was genuine! No wonder the old guard doesn't bother with the younger collectors. This is a sample of what they encounter!

      Hi Ludwig-

Well, to provoke of course and get people to do their most basic homework
and know about these groups. More I will not want to and can not say here
      sorry.

Doing their most basic homework = Not speaking about something they did not see, that is the base.

That is true, I have not seen the group. I was invited to see it.
I tried three time in three years and was turned away. Hmmm

                Did you see it personally?

Yes i saw personally the all group. I could do a precise idea of the quality of the pieces.

That is why i am really astonished of what i can read here.

The best advice i could give would be to think before posting on a subject one does not know.

                  Viele Grüsse aus Paris

Great! So you know more than most here and can really contribute!

Tell us what you saw and what made you like it so much! Now we are
                    getting somewhere finally.

Did you see the Witt helmet?

The best is to visit the person who owns the stuff.
You will also take advantage of the meeting to tell him what you think of the pieces and if you still think there were no uniforms in the grouping ....

You see, that is the probem, you talk to the people who own
the stuff now and who want to sell it for a huge profit!

You must talk to the people who OWNED the stuff originally!

                        Good luck!

I take it you mean the dealer.......(person who is now subject of selling high end fakes for a lot of money? Or the Witt family member that used to own it.....? Which one?

And i suppose that in the group you saw photos that beyond a doubt show Witt with the same uniform.......?

More than likely it has photos and probably good ones, yet I doubt that under a careful analysis and an objective thinking that you can match the tunics to the uniforms in the photos....

So I take it that for some here if the dealer says its good, ....... is enough,

come on guys we know better than that......

I´ll go with John, Don, and Markus on this one....

whoever wants to walk without a cain in this hobby go ahead......

Sometimes people just want to believe what the dealer says so bad that end up believing it themselves and upholding it to the death, when the objective and simple fact is: that It can be a put together group around documents with added tunics…

                            wouldn´t be the first time...

And more over, if the dealer has been known to sell fakes. Then the risk is higher….

And at the end, if you didn’t get it from the family member yourself without all this making a lot of $$$ clouding the issue you just can’t tell….

Let the items speak for themselves.....

I doubt that in one visit with all the excitement one is calm enough to really analyze things, this purchase would require a lot of analysis, talking to the family that owned them and matching the pieces to the group with evidence....

Not just a dealers word and piece of paper.....

especially after what we know they´ll do for $$$$.

Yes, yes, money is never a problem, especially for the sellers.

Did you know that the son got the Witt helmet about 15 years ago?
I bet such a helmet with the Witt-name to it will sell for very nice
money with such a 15-year long provenance! Centerpiece of every
                                SS helmet collection! Nice investment.

Again, I will not get into this further out of discretion.

You talk to the wrong people my friend.

Seeing is definitely not believing! And nametags in uniforms do
not proof anything, even if everything else looks nicely original.

                                Bottom line:
What counts is what was with the families before the groups changed
                                ownership.

You probably also belong to the people who belief Heinz Macher's
Thorshammer was really given to him by the Reichsfuehrer, right?
That's right, Heinz Macher wrote the story himself, even signed it
and offered it for years, while he was alive at DEM 75,000.00.
But go and talk to Himmler's nieces and to Gudrun and ask her
about her father's Thorshammer...! Surprise! Heinz needed some
                                urgent money...

That's it from my side. Over and out.
