Andre that is by far your 2nd best ever grouping ! Only Schumacher can top this one
Only kidding. It is a fantastic grouping to a very brave man who gave up his holiday to die fighting next to his men. A vey special man he must have been.
I hope this one stays safely in your collection for years to come.
Congrats!!! when can Jacques and I come see it ?
Regards
Shaun

Did he die instantly from his wounds? Not questioning the authenticity of the uniform in any way, but was it customary in the German army or SS to send back the blood stained uniform of a fallen officer to his family? I can see sending the decorations off the tunic and other personal effects back to the family but it would, by American standards anyway, be highly unorthodox to send a blood soaked piece of clothing back to grieving loved ones. The reason I asked if he died instantly was to also make the point that had he been wounded, the first thing the doctors would have removed would have been his tunic, and you would think in the chaos of a front line medical outpost, it would have been amazing that the bloody tunic, once removed would have stayed with the body, but again I know nothing of the organization and practices of such facilities. Makes this tunic all the more rare I suppose to have defied the odds of survival.
Best Regards,
Dave
