    Geezzee...I thought the SS panzer beret skull thread was contentious.

    JohnPic

    I for one have received personal help from John numerous times, and he has never met me. He has never turned down a question from me, and I'm sure I have made him have to dig through old files, etc. I for one am certainly glad he is commenting on this subject.

    BNZ 42,

    Your animations can be HYPNOTIZING....can you do that with some panzer wraps for me? Thanks for the very helpful illustrations.

        Everyone,

        I have been watching this thread for a while now and have debated as to step in or not, but I have decided to give my two cents worth. First of all, I wish that everyone could keep their comments educational and civilized. If we try to do this more often, then it will lead to better discussions, better involvement of knowledgeable collectors, and overall a better forum !

        Next, I have handled several bullion SS sleeve eagles. The majority of the ones that I dis-liked definately out weighs the ones that I did like. A while ago there was another thread either on the WAF or GD.com, which I honestly cannot remember which, but Mr. Hritz and myself tried to convey, that original bullion SS officer sleeve eagles are rare. Bob, if you are watching, I hope that you remember this. Anyway, out of the thrity + years that I have been collecting, I have seen and/or bought only five directly from US Veterans hands. I have owned a total of seven in all of my SS collecting years. I currently own four, one on a tunic, and three loose ones, which I will show later. Also, If my memory serves me correctly, Mr. Hritz and Mr. Toncar has a combined total of about forty eagles between them. Now you take into consideration, that they have approximately 90+ years of combined collecting expirence, and out of all of those years, long before the fakes were really good, and this is all that they have amassed, then this should be telling everyone something.

        Now, getting back to the eagle that started this thread. IMHO I do not care for it. All of the ones that I have personally seen or handled and liked, they all have had the black cheese cloth backing, as well as, the black paper backing. I agree with others, that Bob's eagle has differences than the one that started this thread, but, once again, if I am going to spend two - three thousand for a SS officers sleeve eagle, then I would prefer one with the chacteristics like I mentioned above. Keep in mind, this is only based from my personal expirences and preferences.

        Here are pictures of my three loose SS officer eagles , that I have personally bought from US Veterans.

                    Grant;

                    Thanks for you input and contribution with nice eagles.
                    They are good examples of original bullion eagles.
                    I especially like your last one because of the tightness and quality.
                    Really nice!

                    It seems like it is only me and Bob Hritz that can see the similarities.

                    Cheers,
                    Felix

                          I am leaving this topic to those more qualified than I am to comment. However, without taking sides, I must say that I could have written the above comment myself.

                            Thank you sir...Grant and Milan Gard show some fantastic examples...the one with the white backing shown by Milan Gard demonstrates what I said earlier about the black paper...this may have once been present on Bobs but not on the first.
