Great photos Nick! In the last photo we can actually see one of the division's chaplains. Galicia, Waloonien and Handschar were the only three SS divisions as far as I know to have field chaplains.

P.S. What is so special about the decals? They look regular to me.

Late war photo, when division was handed over to Ukrainian National Army. The deathhead was replaced by a Trident badge. Here we have enlisted version, painted feldgrau.


Prince Ugrynov-Bezgrishnyi - not sure what his medals are. Also some sort of party badge on the brest pocket.

To me these look like oversized helmet shields (painted?)
and it looks like some kind of cross insignia, not SS runes .....
but maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me...

VT-SS Battalion flag ??

...One more flag photo:

Looks like a VT-SS battalion flag. What collar tabs are they wearing? Also
might be a General SS battalion flag, as in the Mollo SS book series he
says SS Volunteer units used such flags, but I've never actually seen a
period photo showing such - maybe this is the smoking gun? Likewise,
I now understand the General SS regiment 109 was the formation cadre
of SS regiment Deutschland. Unfortunely, I found that out after I had
traded off one of my SS 109 battalion flags. So it seems that the General
SS did have a more than passing relationship with the later armed SS units.
