I also question how many of the tunics bought are real, have seen several obvious stinkers people paid out big money to own. To me also, restored is just parts, not an original tunic. Its like going to a MAX show and expecting everything to be pre-1945. A guy with a certificate or sticker (as a MAX "expert" or an item owner) is just a guy with a piece of paper. Untouched original SS tunics are few, but still not worth the insanity being asked for them, just my opinion.

One has to keep in mind that Dealers are Just that...They Deal in items to make profit no matter what...And I mean that.Honor,Integrity and all that other Hooey can be tossed out the window.Most Dealers these days Rely Too heavily on a return policy so they dont have to work as hard on knowing whats what,they rely on their pickers to come up with the stories and then Roll with it,,,its easy to pass bad info along.Some know more than others and some put on a GREAT show but when it comes down to it Its Dog eat dog.

Jealousy,no Ive never been jealous of someone trying to sell something,that wouldnt make sense since if I wanted it I could buy it. Petty Bitterness..nope why be bitter especially if you already know some of the real stories behind a hoard of tunics flooded into the market. Angst yeah maybe angst over never being able to get a genuine honest answer out of some mainly because they are students of the school of cronyism and Cal Worthington and his dog spot.

To reflect on why something is considered as valuable as people say it is is not a sign of jealousy or bitterness it is more a curiosity..many people whose brains go beyond the "hey thats a cool item whats it worth" like to know why things are as they are I over hear the question often mumbled as I browse local galleries" gee why is that thing so expensive whats it got that makes it so?"..Thomas De Aquino was one such person who wanted answers and his shallow mentors thought him possibly a heretic but they were wrong.

Im always happy to know that I have at least one item or two that if any of the Cal Worthingtons out theres wallet was as good as thier mouth, could land me a small fortune when and if I ever decide to sell it someday.Anyone wanna spend a fast $18,000 please call me before the next inflation bell. Thought I give my answer to that question Oh and one should care what another person does especially if they are thinking about buying something worth the price of a new car from them someday dont you think?

Herr Hess, Well I would highly recommend the Swiss made Jura Capresso model Impressa E8. It is around a Thousand Bucks and makes killer Coffee, Espresso and several other drinks. Just the thing to keep you energized for long Forum sessions while researching a Badge that some shady Dealer just mailed you!

Herr Strangelove, the Jura's are wonderful machines, expensive but very nice. I bought the Gaggia SS Titanium (I think thats the model). Its a wonderful italian beauty that brews a great cup of espresso or just about anything else you want coffee wise!

IMO none of that will ever change as long as we keep perpetuating it's cycle and also slamming it at the same time without taking a firm position, you can't do both at once. Not only (some)dealers but also (some) collectors add fuel to this cycle in various ways be it fear of financial loss through silence, indifference, or just simply not enough knowledge--giving way to the type of reasoning John talks about which has the power to expose--which scares some people who think their camouflage is good. If only it was viewed as serious like making counterfit money or high level art!

Bob, I don't think the issue is about what someone does as long as it does not negatively impacts on someone else. The problem for me is when an individual's actions are aimed at ripping off/ hurting/ defrauding others for the sole purpose of enriching himself (monetary or emotionally), premeditation springs to mind and that causes angst with me, not any of the three reason mentioned by you. Frankly, it just pisses me off immensely, these individuals should be exposed as often as humanly possible. Jacques

Maybe I am missing it (wouldn't be the first time) but I think what Bob was alluding to is that it should be no one else's business what a collector chooses to collect or what he may pay for items for his collection.

That being said, I agree that potential collectors should be wary lest they become victims of criminal fraud perpetrated by unscrupulous sources.

With SS uniforms, in my opinion it is wise to assume most examples guilty until proven innocent. Untampered examples are exceedingly rare. If the price is 'too good to be true', there is probably a very good reason....

I agree with that 100% it isnt nobodys business what others collect.Except when made public. I guess I missed it and thought it was a dig on those who like exploring the mentality behind pricing,selling fakes,restorations etc...there is a difference between seeking reason and jealousy/bitterness. My experience tels me half the people like to know these things and the other half just want to collect and dont care what others want to know and actually get irritated by the questions.

Just old supply and demand at work, really. Organic, untouched SS uniforms are far rarer than visors (especially the common black EM version going for 5K or so currently) and the higher the rank the harder to find.

Sticking my chin out, I would bet there is not one verifiable SS tunic out there for every 5 correct caps, or even more. Today's prices for intact uniforms are most reasonable.

Anyone have an extra $70M for a Warhol?
