And another variation of buttons, this one here is the italian bakelite button, they are brown "plastic" (bakelite) and have four holes instead of three. This example is sewn on to a 1944 army slpinter zelt. They were used from 44-45.

          Hi Fritz,

Have a look at these features from 3 untouched original ringed oakleaf zelts. For instance :one side with grey plastic buttons and contra buttons are from leather. These are very late ersatz features I believe. What do you think?
          Have a good day Petr.

There are some handstiched buttonholes on these zelts. On some zelts are these shown buttons mixed with regular zinc buttons.I think they used any buttons available at the very end of war..

To me the chances are good that pieces in plam did and still do exsist.

It would be interesting to hear more about the piece your friend has.

                          Thanks!

                          Hi Fritz,
Thanks for getting back to me.
There is a good chance I will see it in the next couple months and will photograph it then. I can send you the photos at that point if you want. Do you personally know any collectors that have these palm zelts in their collections?
                          Thanks

                                Hi Petr,
I haven't seen such buttons before on period zelts, however, if you look at the thread that was used to sew the buttons to the zelt the idea comes to mind that the buttons are replacements and that the buttonholes were repaired. It may also be that these are the very late war style zelts that didn't have any buttons and buttonholes when fresh from the factory and that someone added them at a later stage? The zelts are definatly period...about the buttons I can't tell...?

                                Interesting pictures.

                                Thanks!!

                                Fritz
