Not sure exactly what the stamp is. The letters "RFV" appear above the word "KOLN" (Cologne?). The cap is actually piped in red (somewhat faded).

          Would appreciate any opinions.

Just a few more particulars on the artillery EM cap.

I acquired the cap a number of years ago from a prominent dealer who apparently purchased it from the vet who brought it back, or one of his family members. When I got the cap, it was pretty well flatened widthwise and the visor was partly detached (I was told it sat for many years at the bottom of a duffle bag).

As I mentioned, the cap is piped in red which has faded some. The body itself is of a twill material and has also faded to a degree, as the portion under the eagle is darker.

I believe the eagle may have been missing and was replaced by the dealer. The eagle itself (which is attached by only two prongs) is identical to the one pictured in the Krawczyk & Lucas book "Waffen - SS Uniforms and Insignia". The eagle appears at the top of page 118 and is marked SS373/43.

373/43 is a number found only on fake eagles as far as I'm aware, sorry.

Dan, is that the white core material showing through the piping?

Yes, there is white core material showing. There is spotty mothing here and there on the piping.

Sorry Dan - I would say that skull is a fake as well. One that looks like it has been in a bad car accident.

Can you tell us what markings the skull has?

                    Tony,

It's somewhat discolored on the back, but appears to be marked M1/24 (I think).

In regards to Ben's previous post, the eagle is identical (front and back) in EVERY respect to that pictured in the one pictured in the Krawczyk and Lukacs book.

My question is, is the one pictured in the book also a reproduction?

Thanks guys. I appreciate your expertise.

                        How about the cap itself?
