    Dealer site.

I have only seen one dealer site and it was enough to make you cry - optics all cleaned down to the base - chrome plated , polished to feck and put on silly wooden tripods with shining brass attachments.
    prices - £2,250 for a blc 12x60 one example.

Destroyed , tarted up and hugely over priced for some idiot to buy.
The gent who runs the site trades in Portebello on a regualr basis.
Decent military dealers doing optics alone - none that I know.

      Carl Zeiss Jena 7x50

      Hello!

This is a pair of binos which I found in an old estate. Is there anyone who can tell me anything more about them? Are they authentic or fake? Any idea of the value?

      /Andreas

Tidlig kirigsmarine Zeiss, flott kikkert, verdi i Norge ca 6-7000,- hvis optikken er i orden. Skjelden, hold på denne, den kommer til å stige i verdi.
            Med vennlig hilsen Tom.

It's not easy to say the value, it's always a question how much peoples want pay for te bino. To give you a roughly direction I say you that I would pay arround 800 €

dejvid, what is the number on the set on the right hand side , is there a number on the left side just below the CZ Jena logo .
Youir serial number appears to be on the left side ,I just wonder if they are from the same batch as mine. ( probably not).
                    ( Mine is numbered - 2115061 ).
Mine has different markings on the right side N with nr 39456.

See posts 140 , 141, 145 for some good photos of this type in service, the bentuzers stand right out.

                      Hi!
Thank you all for your response and all help.
The number on the right side is 2114213. There is no serial number on the left hand side.
I also wonder why the swastika is painted red on my set.

The two periscopes of captured U-570

As all you for my comments and signature, I am a fan of the German U-Boote. I find in the ONI of the capture of the U-570 a description of the two periscopes -attack and observation-. And some photos.

Jan7 - Zeiss smooth ocular 7x50's from U-570 were tested against the standard British naval binocular the Barr and Stroud 7x50.
Light transmission was found to be superior in the lighter German binocular which was better engineered and was lees vunerable to damp and moisture.
("We're certainly not affraid of Zeiss" By William Reid. Pages 140-41.)
The author noted that the British set as used in the test was not pristine and the British set although heavier had a better filter system.
(The main reason for the weight disadvantage).

The Barr and Strouds I have are not in the same league as Zeiss but are as good as leitz , the fliter system is certainly much better and more flexible - as far as weight goes the blc U_boatglas is heavier than the standard Barr and Stroud CF41.
Attached below the two sets in question.

                              WW2 Hensoldt 10x50, cag 6x30, bmk 7x50 Binoculars

Here are some WW2 vintage German military binoculars which will soon be leaving my collection, so I thought I would add them here for the record and future viewing of fellow collectors:

                              1. Hensoldt 10 x 50 power, ordnance tan-coloured binos with markings stamped/impressed into the metal on the underside of the central bridge mounting: "Hensoldt-Wetzlar" followed by a 5-digit serial number"15336" (or possibly 15536) and, on the other side, "Dialyt" followed by "10 x 50". Individually adjustable moulded black bakelite eye socket fittings with left and right optical focus. Height approx. 8 inches or 20.5 cm. Central bridge swivel. There is no reticle pattern or grid-scale in the lens (I am told that some military issue sets had this reticle, while others did not). Leather neck strap approx. 28 inches, missing the attachment device at one end.
