    That is a fake one.

It was part of a complete left and right side, and was cut in half about 8 years ago by the previous owner...and he tried selling both sides individually.

It was discussed quite a bit on other forums.

Rivet pattern, aluminum, paint, markings...none match up to anything German.

The conclusion was that it was one of the "tribute" pieces made in the UK in the 1970's. They were made as tributes to BoB wrecks...but over the years, they have been passed off as originals.

Harrison: what is the price on the 109 tail for sale?

Can't vouch for this, but if legit, would be the pinnacle of an Imperial collection:

Here's the link http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...light=swastika , forum member Brent Smith gets credit for cutting it into two.

"Hello to all that seem to take so much interest in my wonderful offering on the WAF .. Well ..Here is the deal ..No one could afford the price of the two pieces together so I decided to let two interested collectors buy them seperately ..If you think about it .Most of the time only one of the tail section insignia's was removed from the crashed aircraft and only one side is really displayable ..So why not make it possible for two collectors to each own a important piece of history ..I originally wanted 4000 for the two sides as it was brought home . The one sided pieces generally sell for 2000 to 2500 or more..After giving it much consideration I decided on seperating this piece and keeping one of the sides originally myself and sold the other quickly for 2000 . I just decided to post my keeper piece I was planning on keeping on the WAF and give a 2nd collector a chance at owning it . No one was willing to pay 4K for the original offering ..It is easier for two different collectors to share the price at 2000 each and each having a cool piece at a very fair price. Two nice displayable pieces instead of the two together . I do not see the big deal or why anyone really cares. If you are not interested in this piece then just move on. These are just pieces of history to start with , not a complete Luftwaffe Fighter plane I have parted out , that I could understand . I will now make two collectors happy in the process my offering this 2nd piece . If the piece I have on the WAF does not sell then I am the second happy collector as I think it looks rather cool hanging on my wall . Brent Smith "

I emailed the seller and the only provenance is that it came from another dealer who bought it from a vet 40 years ago!? I despair in cases like this because I'm a serious buyer but all I get is mickey mouse answers..it's laughable really.

On a more educated note, I highly doubt it's authentic. Just compare it with an original DR1 rudder on the IWM website.

                Definitely not Stuka, however.

The stringer at the back appears to be made by Messerschmitt AG.

My concerns are the wear (which almost appears to be purposefully done)...but...those could be brush stokes that only appears that way?

There are a lot of pieces coming out of the UK that were made in the 1970's. All were done as tributes to BoB aircraft that were shot down...and were painted on original WW2 aluminum (British, German, American)...they were never marketed as original...but after 40 years, they changed hands so many times that people are now fooled.

They tend to have the same type of "wear" that your features...

It matches "similar" to that of the Me110...but it is missing some rivet retails...so not that bird.

See if there is any paint OVER the cut edges. 95% of all the faked ones were painted on aluminum that was cut BEFORE painting...so paint tended to go over top of the cut edges.

My feeling is it is original, just based on the aluminum,

but 100% not Me109, Me110, Ju87, Fw190, Me262, or any of the other major aircraft (fighters or bombers)...could be Me108?

                Mike,

                Should I pull the trigger?

                          VERY NICE...

But I think they are very high with their estimate though.
