Do you know if the main batteries are still intact on the wreck?

        HMS Achilles Flag

        Hi Guys
Here is one of the chaps who helped in this great battle.
It's a small flag given to my father by one of the widows of an Achilles crewman.
Signed after battle in 1940 by River Plate crew.

Here is an interesting amateur water colour showing the 15cm guns in action. This was painted by the recognition officer on board the Graf Spee. He was actually civilian marine personnel.

Another one by him showing the sinking of the Ashlea. Inscription on the bottom roughly translated "she made a fine spectacle going down"

Pistol & Flag from Captain's suicide?

Anyone know what ever happened to the pistol used by Capt. Langsdorf to shoot himself in a local hotel room? Also, I've seen after-the-fact photos that show the captain having wrapped himself in one of the ship's flags as part of the suicide ritual.

I assume that local police authorities gathered these materials in the course of their investigation of the death? If so, possibly the pistol and flag remain in police/government custody, or maybe in a museum?

Thanks to all for the great thread.

Very nice pictures !! Sad too see that they put the Graf spee in pieces now after so long time untouched.Did they not plan to lift the Ship at the beginning?By the way just look at this Ebay Action (not mine) 6252717618 an original Graf spee picture.
