Hello,
I used to think that maybe the fakers got it right and had made a perfect copy of an embroidered eagle. When talking to another collector He thought a highlight eagle that he had was good but that these non-highlighted eagles were "Reddick" fakes because the highlighted eagle he had was a better quality material. I agreed with him on that but still really didn't believe any of these eagles were good.
I called them "Reddick" eagles because this is the eagle that Reddick uses to advertise there repro embroidered eagles. I ordered one to see what it looked like in comparison and the eagle I got looked nothing like this eagle. I talked to them about there acquisition of these eagles and told them that I wanted one that looked like the one they use in their ad. They told me that they order these eagles as job lots and buy them bulk and couldn't guarantee what the Heer embroidered eagle would look like.
At the same time JohnnyR on the forum pointed out a guy in England was selling these for 6 GBP a piece. I bought one. And it is a "Reddick" eagle. They don't glow and look decent. I was really pissed about this because I had just posted 6 of them for sale on the stand and sold them. I contacted each individual and told them to return it for a full refund. I was pretty ashamed of myself for selling fakes.
Some time last year I purchase a Tropical eagle in this pattern. It would have been a KM admin eagle as it is done in a white thread. I purchased it as a fake. It is the same pattern as all the rest of these "Reddick" eagles.
I thought about the collector that told me the Highlighted eagles were good. I ended up purchasing one of the highlighted eagles. It is of a little finer material but when reviewing the rear it is stitch per stitch exactly like the "Reddick eagles.
This is MHO. I believe that all in this pattern are reproductions. I believe this you don't have to. There are eagles that were made during the time frame that are similar but the differences are readily seen in a comparison. I have a friend that has one and I will be seeing him at the end of the month a take a few pictures of it.
The major problem that I had with the eagle that started this thread is with the bullion. The bullion Highlights were not put on by an individual that does bullion work. Besides that I believe the eagle to be a "Reddick" fake.
Here is the Tropical eagle that I mentioned earlier in the thread. This tropical eagle confirmed, to me, that the rest of these "Reddick" eagles are fake.
